The house we bought has a rental hot water tank $34/month.
It's a total waste of money, so we're going to replace with a better unit, purchased at a good price from a friend in the industry.
However, I briefly - VERY B R I E F L Y - entertained the idea of getting an on demand unit, mainly to save space in our laundry room.
Until I found out they start at $3600 and go up from there!
What's the payoff? Maybe they have a 5x longer life expectancy to match their 5x+ larger price tag?
I've had my on demand unit going on six years now and never had a problem. i flush it out every 6 months with vinegar and that's it. I'm not sure what the ROI is but you could probably google that info.

They are good and the theroy is valid about heating and storing water when not in use. But it fails the test at teenage children..who seem to spend ours in the shower using up any savings.
The cheapies at Home Depot start around there. But they're plagued with issues.Quote:

The Main benefit is that you are not heating water that is just sitting around. That uses energy and therefore costs you money. Also, you should never run out of hot water as long as the unit is appropriately sized.
We are off the grid up at the hunt camp and we installed one right from the get go when we built the new place. We've had it for 6 years npw and haven't had a problem with it. Nice to have when you have 10 - 12 guys up and everyone wants to take a shower. No waiting for the tank to warm up.Like it says, hot water on demand...

Ares is gas ..no problem. The way to go .
We have gas as well.
