Hey all I have an 8 month old jagdterrier, was wondering if anyone else has one? she is a great hunter and water retriever already although not soft mouth at all lol. She is also our pet and is to be a honest a pain in the butt in the house, a real challenge, but is a really fun dog overall. Would love to hear that others in Ontario have them!

An 8 month old dog of any breed will test your patience.

yes they are like JRT in many ways, but also quite different.
What do you hunt with them in Ontario? Google says they are used on rough vermin and boars in Europe.
So far she is just after voles and rats on my buddy's farm. But will be small game, mostly groundhog, and also raccoon but not until she is at least 2 for coons. Kinda wish we had some boars here sometimes lol

I would like to say she will retrieve ducks but I don't think I'm going to be able to teach her to give it without nothing but a mess remaining.
Back in the old country they were quite popular, I wouldn't want one for a pet, but that's just me.

Watched a demo of some Jags working a long time ago. They are relentless little dogs with a wide range of abilities. I don't know how well these strong minded little powerhouses will respond to retrieve training but it's an option for you. Done properly, you might have "some" success, keeping in mind what these dogs were bred to do which has very little to do with having a soft mouth.
I hunted with them overseas. Personally (and that might certainly not be true for others), I don't mind dealing with the trouble of having "a lot of dog", but Jagdterrier on the other hand are really "a lot of terrier" LOL
As others said, their real traits are rarely needed in Ontario, but that also doesn't mean you couldn't use them if you get them appropriately trained.
