I do not have experience with the Android box itself. However there is an app called Kodi that essentially does the same thing as the Android box. I have it on my cheap RCA tablet from Wal-Mart and connect it to my tv with a mini HDMI cord.
You can watch movies, tv and sports in it.
A buddy picked up 2x android boxes from amazon for like 40$ - 4K display, wired internet & USB 3.0 ports. He loves it - loaded Kodi on as matt mentioned above and with the add-ons you can get (1channel, icefilms, genesis, sportsdevil...the list is exhaustive) You can usually find anything you want..it just takes a while to find a decent/consistent one (add-on) and after that it's hit and miss when that 'feed' will be shut down. Also - recommend getting a VPN for streaming most things: I run one from privateinternetaccess.com and in 3 years have only had one night downtime, fixed almost immediately.
Watch TV at home on a Raspberry Pi3. Bought two and use one for TV and the second for balloon lunch to near space... it's been in low orbit three times. Still waiting for it to get mailed back from the UK. Last reported beacon location was depending at 3000 meters over Manchester UK. BATTERIES died maybe or maybe a cable shook loose. It was a rough ride on the way down.
Got an android box 2 weeks ago and really, REALLY like it.
Our Internet is a little too slow for quality live sports (we have a 10mbps package) feeds. It does need to buffer often and feed quality can be anywhere from fantastic (NFL games) to terrible (smaller market NHL games).
I've been able to watch my Sens and Bruins every game for 2 weeks, but I've only managed one or two "pretty" looking feeds in that time. To be honest though, even when it's a fuzzy 480p quality, it's still cleaner than the old snowy analog antenna feeds of my childhood.
For streaming cached shows & millions of movies, the android boxes (which are just viewer software bundles to run KODI streams - you can use an old computer to achieve the same results!) are incredible.
We watch all our favorite shows and new movies (even those still IN THEATRES) in 1080p, sometimes even in 4k.
I'm still looking for a good add-on that provides older, more classic cinema.
Just run, "FreeTelly" from your laptop...works much better than an android box in my opinion. Have had 3 android boxes...all buffer..all chinese manufactured crap!!!
I've been running mine for two years now it takes a little getting used to. It helps having friends that use them to share apps or links to a specific game vid time is great if you like the ohl and ahl. Has most junior games on it. To this date the only thing I find I can't find is a good local news but then after the liberal biased that they all showed during the last election I quit watching them anyways. Have not had a cable or bell bill in two years saved almost 2000 since no news is worth that
When using Kodi addons be sure you clear the cache on a very regular basis ( I clear every time I log on ) get very little lag when doing so.
