What is it????
Pulled my SD card and found an interesting picture of something in the feline family. I am thinking Canadian Lynx or Bobcat but not sure they have long tails. What do you guys think? Unfortunately its night pictures and not too clear.
Also included a picture of deer and raccoon's from the same camera to help judge size of animal.
Location: Dundalk Ontario

Interesting photos; definitely lots of life in that area! I'm not so sure the pics are anything feline (although I can see why someone would think so with the pointy ears and what looks like a shorter muzzle in the one photo) due to the tail being as long as it is. I'm betting its a "camera trick" that has made the common coyote tougher to recognize. I've had quite a few photos of the coys on my property where their shape gets distorted (especially at night). Were you able to check the area for tracks at all?

Hardwood forest, lots of leaves, difficult to see tracks

Fair enough. I guess wait and see if you get any more/better pics or other signs of anything "abnormal" in the area. How far is this area from any homes? meaning what are the chances its someone's pet out for a walk?

I'd love to say cougar, but in all probability it looks like it's probably a yote.

Looks like a Coyote to me.

My first thought was domestic dog but could be a yote

Do you have a dog you could put in the same spot? Something thats 40-60 pounds?
The pointed ears, short snout and bushy tail say feline. And I immediately did think Cougar and might still want to lean in that direction but its way too small I think. An adult cougar while not tall is every long. When comparing it to the raccoons that are almost in the same spot, and then the Doe which is a little further away ( and thus a wide angle lens would make it seem smaller than it is).
I'd say its a little larger than the racoon, at most 2xlarger but that might be pushing it, but much smaller than the Doe. All but eliminated Cougar. And if it wasn't for the short snout I might think Fox. As for Coyote I think the short snout and tail eliminate that (Tail seems too much like a cats)
