Geesh..."she was the perfect coyote"...ummm...ok.
While those jacka**es are patting themselves on the back, that yote is probably hamstringing some farmers livestock. Honestly....some people's kids....
Did anyone watch the video at the bottom about the guy in burbank being chased by coyotes?
I spend a fair amount of time in and around California's urban coyote areas. They have a lot of homeless camps/towns in parts of the city down there and it is only a matter of time before a pack is big and bold enough to have a go at a homeless person. Likely a smaller individual with mobility problems. From that point on there could be some serious problems.
The Mexican wolf is moving north and has been for a couple decades now. There is some interbreeding between them and the western coyotes. Well there is no grey wolf genes showing up yet, grey are being found as far south as redding CA. So when the grey get just a little bit farther south they will start to encounter the Mexican wolves and the hybrids. Since only three to four hundred kilometres separate the ranges of the two wolves it will not be too long and we could be seeing the creation of a whole new species of grey/Mexican/coyote hybrids and then a distinct new species of canine. It would be the development of the Eastern Coyote/wolf hybrid all over again.
I dislike coyotes and do hunt them; but I hate to see any animal suffer, and trapped as it was it would only have endured a long slow painful death, better to trap it and release it... open the cage door on the count of 3, shoot on the count of 2... suffering over. Then clean the cage before it dries.
Don't city coyotes vegan like most folks downthere?!? :)
