Ontario cuts hydro bills by 17%, but ultimately it will cost ratepayers $1.4 billion a year more

.An average 17-per-cent reduction in electricity bills this summer in Ontario is coming with a price tag of up to $1.4 billion a year in extra interest costs.

Those extra costs will ultimately come due for ratepayers in the future.

It's why liberals like to get into government, many are pathetic in business and can't stay solvent in the private sector. Their public service sure wasn't to make a positive difference in the lives of the masses, only to bottom line of their cronies in turn for kickbacks, funding and bloc voting from PS.

Honestly, not sure where I'm going to stand on this.

I've yet to read anything, from anyone with respect to a "fix" that won't cost money, won't hurt people. There is nothing that can be done that won't have a cost. Brown could reduce taxes by 20%, theres a cost....
Cancel contracts? Theres a cost
Buy back H1? Theres a cost
Use the dividends to do it (Howaths plan)? Theres a cost. Ministries already screaming for money are use that...maybe its helping to pay the salaries of Nurses, maybe its paying for some inner city youth at risk thing...maybe its helping to pay for something in MNR or anti terrorist...

The status quo is totally, utterly, unacceptable. Anyone with an ounce of conscious must know that.

We can take these things, for which the motivation is extremely obvious and say "shove it". And for the next 18 months, theres no relief for anyone....

Honestly, what can Brown or Horwath do, that won't come with a cost somewhere.......

In the mean time, people outside the land of plenty, and outside that great big hydro sucking monstrosity of bright lights, fast life are paying huge prices for their benefit.

I don't know, someone who lives outside the GTA, where jobs are few and far between, where job losses have been enormous, who is paying higher rates, far higher delivery charges ( so the beast can be fed) and who also doesn't have cheap Nat Gas in mind qualifies.

How?

Cutting taxes is one thing Im in favour of. It puts more money back in peoples pockets. Money they can use to pay stupid hydro rates, or for a car repair (instead of the Visa), or on a dinner (which helps the restaurants, cooks and waiters) and god forbid, save for their own futures.

Healthcare is an utter mess.
Not sure how many tens of thousands of Nurses we need to hire ( they've been letting lots of RNs go)
800,000 Ontarians don't have GPs. Need to hire a few thousand of them to..

The MNR?
Don't we all here, wish there was more money for them, So they could do better jobs with Moose, Deer, enforcement...And thats just the start. Cutting taxes (which I am in complete with, comes with a cost)


And Im not sure how that addresses what many have "argued" for years, at times been called names or other for doing so, and what Ms Wynne has finally herself acknowledged, just up above.

Its the working class, aka middle class, aka those for whom life isn't equal, hasn't been equal for years that are paying the prices, especially outside the GTA

People may end up with a smaller monthly Hydro bill, but will end up paying for it through some other method of taxation. The government is running on empty, they have to make it up somewhere.

But there is some truth to it, like it not. Its funny how so many in the GTA ( broad brush strokes/generalities) resent Mike Harris for selling the 407. It is virtually identical to selling H1 ( the various reasons, etc, etc). Some will argue "what a stupid thing to do"....or...."Oh, I see. Harris sells the 407 and thats ok because he is a Conservative, but Wynne sells H1 and she is dog faces on the street), etc, etc, etc

Completely overlooking that once upon a time, the 407 was paid for and built by everyone, so that the people of the GTA reaped the benefits.......And everyone is still paying billions to expand it to the 115 now.
Why? To make their daily lives a little easier and create jobs, high paying jobs.......

100,000,000 a table scrap to entice Nat Gas companies to spend billions delivering Nat Gas to people who are getting kicked in the gonads....

And on ad nauseous.

We now have ridiculous amounts of surplus Hydro. The Left will say its because back in the day there were brown outs, smog, etc, etc..... That surplus is being sold at enormous losses, many people are paying higher rates and insane delivery charges.......

Who needs and uses all the power?
Why its not little old Port Perry or Fenlon Falls......and those outside those areas...

Cutting taxes for everyone ( I wouldn't ) might be the quickest this is important to. Why should people who have been taking it on the chin, ( See Ms Wynnes I'm sure painful admission) wait years, years for "relief", be it jobs, be it reduced rates be it 20 years for Nat Gas..and that paltry 100m to lay pipe to them....whatever...

ok, an across the board 10% tax reduction. Certainly helps everyone pay these insane rates and save for tomorrow. Shame many of them, hundreds of thousands of people will be living in hovels ( can't afford Hydro) or working to the grave ( can't save) or dead............While so many have benefited at their expense (See Ms Wynnes admission)

But woohoo we all save 10% in taxes.

It's strange.
Federally we kind of understand "fairness". Economic powerhouses are needed, they get so much be it 407s, be it subsidized TTC and Go Trains...be it the 401 and more. All needed and good things.

So those provinces "share the wealth" to regions we might call "have nots". Was a time Ontario sent money to the East coast......

In Ontario where we have the 5th largest city in the North America.
The Financial capital of Canada and so much more. It is an important centre.
