Anyone going over? I will be hunting with a small group of guys and we are camping. Looking forward to some cooler temperatures and some dog work. We have a pretty elaborate menu planned as well.
Does anyone know the status of the crops over there?

We are booked for the 3rd hunt.
I was speaking with someone last week, who is also going for the 1st hunt and he heard that a lot of the crops have not been harvested yet due to the wet weather?
Not sure how accurate that information is, but, it will be good to get a report from you next week on conditions and your experience.
Good Luck Dilly, will you be hunting for all 3 days?
Phil
We are hunting all three days Phil. I like that they added a 3rd day. I am hoping it takes some of the crazy out of the pace. I will report regarding conditions.
Hunt has been good. We are stranded here on the island due to wind. The ferry isn't sailing till maybe tomorrow. I will submit a full report once I get home.
Glad to hear you had a good hunt Dilly and I am very much looking forward to hearing your report
Good luck with your departure today, hopefully the wind stays down and you can get on your way

Well, another Pelee hunt in the books. Beans were approaching half off I would estimate. Lots of great birds around, but they got really skittish after the first day. Dogs had to contend with runners and many flushed out far and went like crazy in the wind. Challenging shots all around. Some of the windiest weather I have ever experienced on the island and it shook up the ferry schedules, but that's what you have to allow for if you go.

Sights like this didn't happen after the opening morning, but it gives an idea of what the bird numbers were like in some places as well as their condition.

I managed to put my drilling to use. Took a few misses to get it sorted out, but the dog eventually forgave me.

A bonus on this trip was meeting a fellow board member Eriedukr. Glad you stopped by Jay. It was great meeting you.
Good luck to those going on the following hunts. Please report.
Dilly, Glad to hear you had a good hunt and good to hear you made it off the island. I heard Sunday was a little windy as well and the Ferry service was on off.
How about # of hunters? Was it more or less than years past?
Was the OPP and CO's out in full force? Did you get checked much? (I seem to remember last year you said you were stopped twice?)
Which area did you mostly hunt?
How did 3 days compare to last years 2 day hunt? Dog and hunter must have been tired?
Also, G8 photos, but I need to ask.....which good looking guy are you? Baseball cap or Switzerland?
Phil
Hahaha! I thought it would be obvious with the German dog, German gun, and German (Austrian actually) hat.
Regarding your questions, I was told there were 250 hunters. Not sure if that was related to weather or not. We hunted around the campground mainly and a bit up North. I saw the COs on the boat but that was it. None of us were checked this year. I think there were 3 of them on the island. I liked the 3 day hunt. I like to think it took the pressure off those people who just have to kill their limit and go a little berserk on day two.
Thanks for the report dilly!
Looks like a great time Dilly, I like the gun you where using.
