Tan my hide

Over the past several years I've shot a good number of coyotes mainly for predator control at mine and friends farms. I've skinned a bunch of them and put them in the freezer with the intention of trying a home tan at some point. As time goes on, freezer space is getting tight and I think i need to do something about all this fur that is taking up food space. I am curious if there is anyone who tans at home and would be willing to take on this job. I have 8 average sized coyotes and one rabbit. these would be all for decorative purposes. I am not looking to take them to auction or anything. I inquired at a local taxidermist but $150 each seemed a little steep.

Actually,$150 each for tanning is a very good price. Tanning is time-consuming and supplies are expensive. YouTube has many good videos on hide tanning. You would be wise to check them out. Welcome to the forum.

I would check the rules on handing pelts to tanneries.
Not sure of them off hand but I believe there is a section in the guidelines that covers this.

I'd rather pay 150$ then spend 5hrs fleshing and cleaning a hide again. Did two last winter for land owners. Just used the self tanning solution you buy at cabelas. Works good if you really prep the hide and work it in to its soft.

All you need to provide to the tannery is your hunting licence number. You can possess, sell and tan coyote under your small game licence.

It’s 70 dollars a coyote through Fur Harvesters Auction but you need to pay shipping to and from both your place and the tannery plus tax probably come out about the same.

I’ve done 4 coyotes myself using the lutan F method. All turned out good, but I would not do it for $150 for someone. It’s not hard, just tedious. I would expect about $250 for a finished, soft, case skinned coyote worthy of display.

who offered for that price? i have some coyotes im beginning to hunt in the backyard now. if i shoot a nice one i might consider that...

You need to ask the OP. Most taxidermists charge $200-$300 each. I want to do some myself this year. If they turn out well,they'll be Christmas gifts next year.
