Importing

Hello all.

I'm looking at buying a used boat from the USA. Unfortunately the owner does not have ownership for the boat or the trailer, there is no motor.
My question is has anyone had to do this before and bring it into Canada?
If so what did you have to provide coming thru customs ?

I'm sure no ownerships will be a big flag at the border.

Your best bet would be to ask customs this question, hopefully before you put your money out. I think you know the answer already and are only hoping to hear of a loophole? I doubt you're going to find one?

I've looked at customs online and it appears to not be required.
Hence the reason I'm asking .

I have no experience in this matter,
but What I would do is get yourself a home built trailer ownership and a new plate for the trailer.
For the boat you can fill out a form online to register the boat in your name.. all you need is a bill of sale and a picture of the boat ( I've even done it without a VIN).. once it's approved they will generate a new boat registration number.
Go buy the boat, put your new trailer plate on and change the boat numbers to the Ontario style
Cross the border and say nothing.. your the captain now.

Will the current owner not bring it across for you? Seems like the simplest route.

Once it's in Canada life will be easier.

Customs may be suspicious of a boat and trailer without a motor being brought into Canada especially at this time of year. Will look for all proper paperwork.
