Daughters first bird
Last year was her first try at turkey. We had numerous opportunities to no avail, she actually missed a big tom out of a pack of 7 gobblers on her last day out. She was so upset that she missed, that she cursed words I had never heard her say before.
Fast forward 330+ days and we're back at it.
After realizing the advantages of a cellular game camera (thx MarkyMark), I got one for Christmas. I set it up at a known roosting site and it did most of the scouting for my opening day hunt.
We set up before daybreak on the edge of the cornfield 40 yards uphill from the camera.
Hen tree yelps and tom gobbles were on full display all around us for the first half hour. Once they hit the ground, it was just a matter of convincing the hens to come hang out close enough to draw in the Tom.
As the last bird(the Tom) entered the field, she raised the gun at the right moment and made a great head shot.
To say that she was excited is an understatement. She screamed "I GOT IT" 30 times in a row like a machine gun going off.
It was an amazing moment of joy you rarely get to experience. Loved it!
Just to add to her memory, the camera went off just after the shot, showing the dead bird on the right with our decoy above it and all the hens busting out of there.
The Tom had 7/8" spurs and a 10"beard. Beauty for her first.

Awesome story and congrats to you both! I'm sure that feeling beats shooting them yourself by a long shot. Can't wait for my kids to start doing the same.
