Watta deer!!
It is funny how deer mounts have changed over the years. My first couple have the big wooden live edge plaques attached, my buddy has mounts like yours and my last few have all been Texas. Not sure which is my favorite, but looking at yours I was thinking that it is nice to see more than just the horns. My first full mount was an old warrior with rips out of his ears and a big scar on his nose. I loved that the taxidermist left all of that without trying to repair or hide it. Looks like your guy has some character in his left ear too. And it is also interesting how long the hair around his bases is. Like most hunters I love just seeing deer, both mounted and on the hoof. Ultimately, I think it is proof that we appreciate much more than just harvesting them. Congrats on a nice buck and mount.
My first big buck mount I had the wood with greenery and looking at that mount, it takes your eyes away from the deer. This mount lets you focus on just the deer. The hair around his bases is way cool and pretty unique as I have never seen it like that before. The only problem with mounts like these is that you never really get the neck as thick as when you took the deer. With drying and tanning it does shrink back down some. This guys neck was very swollen when I shot him and he was rutting hard.
