Up north camping

[COLOR=#353C41]This summer so far has been a write off for me fishing wise. My son and I got out once on Lake Erie and that's pretty much it. Went north a couple of weeks ago and never wetted a line.

[COLOR=#353C41]The wife and I are going to get away at the end of August/first of September and we plan on really getting away...other side of Sudbury/Timmins/maybe even Thunder Bay. Gonna be dragging our 24 foot trailer, any suggestions? I've checked out White Lake Provincial Park, Ivanhoe Lake Provincial Park and Fushimi Provincial Park, does anyone have experience up that way?

If Thunder Bay is a possible destination, you owe it to yourself to head north out of the Soo on Hwy. 17. The scenery itself is considered world class by many, as you drive along the shores of L. Superior. There several nice campgrounds along the way, Pancake Bay, Agawa, Rabbit Blanket, all within the boundary's of Lake Superior P.P. Agawa has a nice visitor center with a display or the history of the region, along with a walking trail leading to the world famous Agawa Pictographs https://www.algomacountry.com/agawa-rock-pictographs.
There's also lots of terrific sights and locations to explore closer to Thunder Bay. You could make it a circle route and return via Hwy 11?
Not sure if you will be bringing a boat along, but there would be numerous spots along the way to wet a line if you wanted?
Do some googling and you'll see what I mean about the area. Have fun whatever you decide.

I can't imagine dragging a 24 ft trailer up over those hills north of the Soo but for sure, the scenery is well worth it. If you have access to a boat as well, White Lake is great walleye fishing.

I have a truck and have travelled that route in all 4 seasons. The uphills are easy peasy, its going down the other side with a load that can get interesting.

I used to drive tractor trailer. Oversized..lots of good times on them hills W of the Sault. Rossport can get pretty knarly as well.

I am in Sudbury. Look into coming to town and heading up highway 144 towards Timmins. Lots of nice spots to throw a boat in the water.

Fishfood, that would be awesome! We'll be there late August into September.

Fushimi was nice only 1 complaint and that is not in the parks control. The mosquitos were absolutely awful. Literally infested with them around the sites ,near the water was ok . I never got around to fishing we only stayed the one night showed up a bit late and left really early because of the mosquitoes. A big bug screen tent can take care of that problem.

I did try to fish just as it was getting dark but got snagged up as I casted a little to close to some rocks without looking first lol. So I did fish for a whole 3 seconds lol. Only tied the one hook and didn't bring any backup baits.

Observations of the fishing talked to a couple after some walleye and getting a bunch of small pike. Another boat came in around 7 and had walleye a pike and 3 decent perch. A guy fishing the beach area said he thinks he lost a walleye right at the dock . I would of loved to fish it a bit more but I was a family trip and not a fishing trip.

My buddy texted me and asked how many walleye I got on fushimi he said its infested with walleye. He has a camp near by and his kid gets the walleye from shore. Camp is still under construction he has only had it a few years . Guess his kids told him I was swimming in fushimi lol. I asked him how the mosquitoes were on his property and he said infested lol.


As for the scenery in plain it's all the same only nice part is the top of the hill at new liskerd lol. Even the guy fishing the beach though there woul be more. The scenery doesn't start until about the 1300 km marker a few hundred km west of Hearst.

we also stayed in kakabeka falls and lake superior agawa bay. Old womans bay is also amazing. The scenery is absolutely stunning from the sue to thunder bay.
My wife is already planning the next trip back to that area. Fished for 20 minutes is kakabeka cought a pike on the second cast . Never fished superior area we stayed longer and enjoyed the beautiful beaches.

Sorry never got many is was our shortest stay .

However my youngest was afraid to swim because she had a leech on her from larder lake. We found half dozen or so big ones just walking the beach lol. We found one before at the boat launch, a few at the beach and some further down the beach lol. We did get her in the water but it took some time for me being in the water to show they wouldn't get her lol.
