Really weird this summer, we haven't had a mouse in the house for years, then all of a sudden this summer we're being invaded, I've caught 8 in traps in the basement in the last 4 days, also caught 1 in a trap in our travel trailer, usually when I did catch a mouse in other years it would be when the weather started to get cold like end of Oct. or 1st of Nov. Is anyone else noticing a rise in the mouse population?
My best friend up north is finding all kinds of mice and normally only gets them in the winter. I haven't seen many mice but my workshop has squirrels and chipmunks running everywhere. I have the pellet pistol but to many things in the garage right now being worked on. Think I will have to set some water traps.
Not just rural....I’ve been running a trap line all summer !!
Around here its a plague of pine beetles and earwigs. Particularly earwigs, I've never seen so many in all my years but mice don't seem to be an issue yet.
Mice and rats everywhere around the barns this year
had a mouse in the garage last night which is odd, he was gone after an hour I was surprised how quick I caught him. Lots of earwigs this year, weird they are everywhere.
Earwigs at the cottage are making some flowers into disasters, Japanese beetles and squirrels have ruined the golden raspberries so far this year.
At home probably 3 baby rabbits this year ....which relates to alot less balloon flowers and very few peas and stunted beets (until I put up screens).
At home I keep a couple mouse traps in the shed and have two live trap mouse traps along the foundation of the house since we live near a park. I've emptied it twice with multiple mice in it. The one time I didn't check it for a couple days and I have no idea how many got in the trap but there 3 identifiable and alot of fur and parts so I would guess atleast 8 or 10 dead (or more?) so far this summer.... and if you are wondering, I have a couple of pails for taking water out of the rain barrel and I find live trap mouse traps don't float. Live traps are metal and work best I find, one mouse goes in and others follow it seems and I don't have to worry about raccoones stealing the traps (they will if it is a victor trap with peanut butter under a bucket) or chipmunks etc., they last long and last fall I watched a mink try to get into it for about 15 minutes one morning and I am still using the same one. In late fall and winter even if I check it daily they are often dead by morning since it is metal.
I was saying to my wife just a few weeks ago that there does seem to be a lot of mice this year\? And much earlier than other years? We've trapped at least 1/2 dozen here at the cabin since July.
None in our house but when I went to sort through some goose decoys in my shed, the bag had at least 10 in it. I sprinkled the shed with peppermint oil.Hope this helps.
Lol. Funny you mention that. Crazy amounts of mice at the camp this summer. First time I get 2 in the same trap last week. Stinks awful when you just go weekends.
