Hey guys. If you're using #30 PP or similar, what fluorocarbon leader do you match it with? #30 or more? It should be similar in diameter correct?
also what is your favourite brand of flouro leader?

Excuse my ignorance but what is 30 lb PP?
I've always matched any line with a lighter weight leader for the simple reason that if you get stuck on bottom, you lose only some of your leader without compromising your main lines strength. Ever try to break a 30 lb test braid without something else giving in first, usually the skin on your hand. I don't think its any real concern whether your chosen leader is of a less diameter than your main line either and I can't see any reason why it would be a concern. And I do prefer that it is of lesser diameter.
I'm using Vanish flouro simply because it was closer to me on the racks at CTC than the Stren or whatever other brand. Its probably like your washing machine, one company makes them all and other companies simply put their label on it. Nowadays, its all good stuff.
Gonna be interesting to see what views other guys here think of it.
Maybe I'm thinking that the equivalent strength is 30lbs?
That's what I thought. I just bought 30lbs seaguar at bps. Expensive stuff.
What are y'all using to tie the two lines? Double Uni ?
On my spinning gear I have 15 pound braid and I use between a 8lb to 10Lb fluro leader. This is what I use for my ned rig, drop shot or when dragging a tube.
I use a simple clinch knot for just about everything and have yet to lose a fish or don't remember ever losing a fish to this knot failing. I used to use the Palomar but eventually gave up because tying anything a bit complicated with ice cold fingers in the early spring or late fall was too frustrating for my limited patience.
When tying fluorocarbon to my main line (Seaguar is my favorite fluoro) I use a double surgeon's knot..easy to tie even when I can't find my glasses in the boat... If my main line is braid (Power Pro 30 lb is my braid of choice) I use a triple surgeon's knot.. never ever had a problem with that combo.. easier to tie than uni knots IMO..
Thanks for the info guys!
What leader length of flouro do you prefer for say, casting a medium sized crank bait? I've tried 24" or sometimes 30".. too long and I find the casting is compromised... keep in mind I am using spinning gear.. I want to switch over to a bait caster in the future..
