New tires for truck - Suggestions

I am driving a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 Night Edition and I am coming up to 2 years with the factory rubber and think it is time to get some all weather tires before the snow flies. Because of the 20" wheels snow tires will be very expensive and require alloy rims so someone suggested all weather tires (with the snowflake icon on the tire).

Due to COVID I do not think I will be driving much over the winter for work, and if we go on a road trip we usually drive my wife's RDX (has winter tires).

I have short listed these tire options:

- BG Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO2
- Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac
- General Grabber A/TX All Terrain
- Bridgestone Dueler

Any suggestions or is there something that I overlooked?

One thing I wanted to suggest,

Our shop normally puts Michelins on our fleet but I got Wranglers last time. I asked why the change and the mechanic said he gets “take-offs” from tire shops CHEAP, ie $100/tire. This doesn’t help you with snow tires or all-weather tires, but if you could get some new tires cheap for good weather driving, maybe you want to buy some premium snows and only run them in the cold months.

I have Motormaster All Terrian W/T on my 1500 Sierra. I have another set of rims(17") with these on it but they make a 20".

Great tire i find. Although I've never had snow tires before, But I do a lot of field driving in the fall and winter, No maintained roads, muddy rough jobsites and I've neve been stuck. Pulled a 53' tractor trailer out of a snow bank one day last winter.


My buddy has K02s on his 1500 Sierra. He has always had them. He thinks they aren't the same rubber compound as before as he's not getting the same life out of them. He has about 65k on the now and I'd say they are less than half. He does a lot of highway driving though, But he travels same offroad stuff when we are hunting, his are a lot more $$ than mine too. He has the 20" ones too. They do have a good hard sidewall that you can run low air pressure.


Thats what I've delt with, Might be better out there to I dont know.

Great in snow mud wet roads will pick up throw stones

Would like to try Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ

BG Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO2 - those are on my Silverado 20". They are not that much more than the 18".

You just missed the CT sale on those.

I run Cooper AT3 4S in 275/55/20 on my Tundra. They're a great all around All Terrain tire. Not as aggressive as the BFG KO but much quieter and smoother ride.
The Coopers are decent in snow as a non-winter tire.
I've never had an All Terrain tire that I felt was actually good in winter conditions.

I had a set of those Mickeys and would only recommend them if you go off road often. They rode harsh and were way too noisy for everyday driving.

The BFGs are nice, I just put on some Toyo open country, lots of guys I know love them and they seem to last.

X2....Great all around tire

I have the BFG tires right now. I used them during last winter, and they were pretty good in snow and ice. They are good on wet roads too. I've also had the Wrangler Duratrac tires on a previous vehicle and I really liked them. They are much better off-road that the BFGs due to the more open tread pattern. I think they are also a bit cheaper. If you don't do much off-roading, the BFGs are a good choice. I can't comment on the other two options you mentioned.
