Young buck down
After sitting in the stand for a couple of hours this morning, I decided to get down and go for a walk. There are some places on this property that I was curious to check out. The temperature was 2 degrees and the ground was damp which helped muffle the sounds of walking through the woods. I was following an old trail through the woods with a large swamp to my left and a rocky ridge to my right. Eventually, the trail petered out but according to google earth, it appeared to keep going. So i proceeded northward looking for signs of the old trail. There wasn’t much for deer sign, just the occasional pile of poop. I carry pruning shears with me so I used them to sneak quietly through the woods. As I was contemplating my route, a buck came into view to the left of me and from the opposite direction. It was about 15 yards away and had its ears back. It was walking as if I was another buck and was looking for a fight. It was getting closer and didn’t show any indication that I wasn’t a deer. Since the deer aren’t exactly plentiful and weren’t throwing themselves at us I decided to take him. He turned towards me as I put the crosshairs on his neck and pulled the trigger. He went down in a heap. I dragged him for about 100 yards to where I could get the ATV to. All done by 10:00.

Nice buck, congrats. I wonder if you grunted whether or not he would have charged at you.
