JT is not paying for anything, the tax payer is paying for it all.

Don't worry, he took on the debt so that we would not have to, but our grand kids and great grand kids will be on the hook for 10x what he "paid" for once all the interest gets tacked on to it.

Actually Fish, Line052 is correct the current federal government and our benevolent leader is robbing the the next 5 or more future generations as they are the ones who will be paying for the current sh_t show that our current so called leader has put us in with little or nothing to show for it other than a large red minus sign in the country's bank account. So I would say for those who are unborn yet and will be responsible for this debt were stolen from and didn't receive any thing for it other than a larger tax bill. Some life they will have!

So give out no money to tide people over this crisis, and let the chips fall where they may. Homes lost, businesses gone. Your on your own. No politician would ever do or say that, as they would never hold power or be elected.

No I can't because I have no say in my healthcare choices - it is illegal to for me to try and set up a better solution in Canada (QC is exempt - as they did not sign constitution and therefore controls its healthcare). I can't write one, as I have no authority. You see the premise and funding Universal Healthcare is good, collective funds pooling paid when young to support all others who age, your healthcare needs are low (typically) when young and increase as you age and need more care. That is the premise, just like CPP...problem is over the last 40 yrs two things have occurred to throw that formula out the window.

1st - Birth populations have dropped dramatically causing an imbalance of those paying into the system, this coupled with the loss of blue collared manufacturing jobs has reduced the amount taxes collected, these blue collared good paying jobs have turned to part time low paying jobs.

2nd - Huge increases in taxation in the last 40 yrs, both in after tax funds we have to spend (1972 you paid .17 cents per $$ earned in all taxation - 2020 - is in the range of .48 to .54 cents of every dollar earned goes to one level of government or a consumption tax), also, at the same time huge wage gains have been made in healthcare wages - as a result has put constant pressure on healthcare budgets (Deficit spending- fights over Healthcare transfers by feds). Also, since there is no competition in healthcare and state is only buyer - business has increased the cost of products provided. Lack of competition always increases prices.

The results:

High product/wages/bloated administration - place huge pressures on healthcare budgets - which result in de-listing many services- eye costs, PSA testing, PAP smears, or the government has to borrow or cut in other areas to fund. This is the game played by political parties..Ford (I dont like him and predicted all that is coming true) is bearing the brunt of lefts attacks on his government.

You see the basic problem is you all to government to fix your problems - that is not the answer - it places the control of your healthcare in the bureaucrats and politicians hands. If you want to fix the healthcare problem - we have to remove that power and money (which grants them power and authority over us) by doing this:

Funding - the value of each person funding goes to the individual
Private verse Public Options - Allow people to make their own choice if they want to direct those funds to public or private options. NOTE: The state will always funds those who cannot make informed choices - default position (weak, elderly)
Full funding to your local LHINS - I.E> only 50% of your share is spent in your LHINs - all it would be sent to Local LHINs.

Impact - Public and private will have to compete for your service and it will produce better outcomes. The system would improve.

The BEST PART - It removes the power and influence from politicians and stops the election peddling.

Why are we closing down still ?

Why do shutdowns give the opportunity to change the future when the people are in need . Why are we shut down when the numbers show it's not the public that is dying. ?

As I look out my window I see the neighbors enjoying friends over but I'm not allowed too? As I look across the Rd the lives Carry on while we are in a shut down . These shutdowns are a joke especially when you live on the boarder line and see what they can do across the Rd but is unacceptable on my side Rd .

So why ask the patrons of an outdoors website, when you can get the answer by watching the briefing on TV daily. How many accually get an inheritance now a days? I can honestly say I know more who don't than do by far. Some of the stories I have heard are just horrible when they have addictions and have an inheritance.

I am one of them my wife is another story she could get some of it now but no need too rush things.[emoji6]

Money can't buy happiness how many in the 1 percent have thought about ending their life or has. Or have major drug issues.

I have two friends and my own mother that are now in retirement homes living off their Investments (equity from selling their homes.) They are all in pretty good health considering so they may be there for years.

and it's not that they were 'stuffed' there..it was their choice...who wants to live under foot at your kids house.

I guess Gilly will move into the basement and his kid will move upstairs Haha..

Reverse mortgages first started showing up in Europe around the turn of the century. They work a little differently across the pond but are largely similar in function. As expected they are gaining popularity here, rapidly. Mike, largely nailed it.

Funny thing G. Around the time you joined the workforce and were given a DBP just for showing up every day, the life expectancy of people post retirement was somewhere around 12 years. Today, its 22 years for men, 25 for women.

How long do you think a couple hundred grand will last? And for many people boatloads of them, that's a boat load, a lifetime and they are not close to that.

T and C1 now both have 3 each respectively. That's 6 birthdays to spend on, 6 Christmas to spend on blah blah blah.......

C1 who married M, did quite well for herself. Maybe like your sister and was a gold digger :) ( joke that). M was wealthy. Today he's just under 80 and not expected to live long. ( major illness). They are relying on a reverse mortgage because they 6k/month they'd need for a home that tends to his needs is too much. C1 should be fine, but she's also planning on needing a source of income for another 10-15 years.

Lets use 2020.
Couple Y have just decided to separate. Maybe after months of being locked in the same place has exposed weaknesses in their relationship.
The markets tanked........Lawyers decided Aug 1st was going to be the date of separation of valuation of assets...for sheeps and giggles half and what they were worth in Aug 2019.
From 80,000 saved to 40,000....
That gets split
20,000 each.
Bankers and lawyers take a big chunk of that each.
10,000 each to start rebuilding.


Man you just have no idea.

The other aspect is that for a great many people, your parents are still alive when you retire. It's not like in the movies with having young kids at home and sharing the house with your elder Mom or Dad. People live into their 80's now and that generation married when they were a lot younger,..so they had kids when they were 20....they are in their 60's now. ( My died past this summer at 88 I'm 64 )

So the option of having an elder adult that needs to have their Depends changes 3-4 times a day living with you is not going to happen, not my idea of the Golden years of retirement. It's hard enough that you can barley get out of bed and are pretty close to wearing Depends yourself.

So Shady Acres it is...paid for with your inheritance and worth every penny. HaHa..

Multi generational homes are becoming a thing Mike. Common amongst societies we look down at......
Five maybe 8 years ago some speculated more developers would start building more homes with a master on the main floor ( so that elderly parents). One divorced lady I know bought one. She's in it for now, renting out the upstairs to a divorced guy that is on a shoestring budget. Space and cost, and land being a precious commodity I suspect......they quickly ran out of flavour, in favor of links, towns and condos.

I don't know how this spun off....actually I do.

and couples being locked in the same room for months. Working remotely, in each others space 24/7. On top of mounting financial strain. There are reasons spousal abuse is spiking.

I statement like that from you is really very sad. Do you think we had the same start in life you did, because I can tell you are in for a big surprise. You might even look like the one with a silver spoon in your mouth.

So you made some bad choices, went down the wrong career path or in your case could not stick with one path, got divorced and also had bad health. Now we are some how responsible for your demise?

In relation to divorce I am helping my disabled BIL get through his separation for the last year. I have seen exactly how thing's can be manipulated by a cunning/criminal ex wife and how she could con the judicial system at least at the start.

So I have full sympathy for many of you folks that have gone through this terrible process. Its very one sided and is set up to basically enrich lawyer's and keep the court system in business.

So I think I know what the real world is like.

BTW I have not inherited anything in my life to date. But I have two siblings out of seven how managed to help themselves to most of my parent's estate, but that is a whole other story for another day and its not unusual in families.

Your pretty well off , if you think after 15 years working in Regent Park almost exclusively that I don't know what poor people go through, it was my actual existence, I spent more time with those folks than with my own family. OMG

If you had crossed path's with me in Regent Park and were on the other side of the law you would remember me because you would have ended up in the Don. LOL

So I think I have walked many, many miles both physically and mentally in other people's shoes. If you think I am harsh now you definitely did not meet me before. So you stuck up for folks that were victim's of profiling, well so did I and on one occasion it cost me 16hrs pay. Yes even COPS are victim's of racial profiling and systemic racism.

So back to inheritances most second and third generation Canadians I have seen managed to squander inheritances.

Does the bank really have us covered by CDIC or it it true they can actually only cover 3% of all deposits.

They “feared” that with the back taxes they wanted. The German depositors would get screwed. When they seized Frankfurt operations, I couldnt get collateral back, flow it through the Germany ( they’d seize those US treasuries for depositors) which meant in essence I couldn’t buy back the stock I shorted, which meant the bank that lent me the stock....

A union guy back in the day was making a pretty good buck, a guy on the line made the same as a COP and maybe more with overtime. He could buy that little bungalow in Oshawa and everything was rosy.

Except suddenly Globalization came along, the Union guy was to expensive and folk's were getting sick of paying $50,000.00
for a pick up truck, so screw you guys were are off to sunny Mexico, where we can pay $2.50hr and no health benefits.

Fast forward 20 years and they have been down there producing pick up's and cars for next to nothing and now you paying $70,000 for a pick up truck.

So JBEN where does the spread go, the average Joe up hear never got a break on his truck price, where did all the saved money end up. Share holders and CEO salary I suspect and also not to mention a tax friendly climate for the company.

One reason why I go back to the 60s/70s, single incomes and what not. What occurred not long after?

Investing in the markets and need for stock appreciation, dividends and thus profits/corporate greed? Your Pension?
