Recommendation for good winter boots

Me and my wife are wanting to get better winter boots, we only have late fall boots their comfy but very very slippery when we hit some snow. So makes for late season bunny hunts a little tricky. I've learnt its not worth buying garbage. What do ppl use for winter boots, only big criterias we have are, comfy, warm, prefer tie up about 8 or 9inch high (dont like ankle boots when walking around in the woods) and obviously water proof just in case you end up on thin ice and sink a few inches into water.

I went with the rubber boots tho again this year . Never know how much water will be on the lake lol. They keep ya warm and dry

^ x3....just picked up a pair of 'Titans' from Cabela's buring the boxing week sale for $120.

Snug up the sides so you get better support than most rubber boots and excellent inserts (-100c )

I just wear Muck rubber boots now as every other kind of boot falls apart after a year or two.

I wouldnt want to use these boots if sitting long in -20 but for walking they are great as dont get too hot and are slim and comfy, Not big sloppy like some rubber boots. I walked right through a swamp yesturday that was wet, foot of snow and tons of dead fall. I wouldnt want to do that with lace up boots.

Depending entirely on how cold you expect to be out in. If you are looking for very cold weather boots to keep you warm and dry Rig Boots are the only way to go. I go with my rig boots when I get up the nerve to go fishing or hunting in the -20/-30 range. A good set of rig boots will last for years, mine spent three winters in the woods felling timber. If you get cold feet in those I will come light you a fire, lol. My wife suffers from cold feet during the heat of the summer, her baffin 8757-1251 riggers keep her feet warm out on the ice without a single complaint.

To get me through down to the -20 margin I run winter muck style boots, good grip and not all that heavy to lug around all day.

Whatever boots you choose, don't forget to wear seasonally appropriate socks. I hear people complain all the time about how their boots are terrible and don't keep their feet warm. Then I find out they're wearing socks you wear in your running shoes in April in their winter boots and they're expecting the boots to do the rest. I prefer merino wool socks as they're warm but not as itchy as traditional wool. There are also synthetic insulating socks out there, but I prefer natural fibers. And above all else, when sitting still, don't forget to wiggle your toes :thumbup:

I prefer those little blue booties , that go inside your boots.

Baffins all the way, get a good pair once.

That's them.

Anyone have the Baffin Snow Monster....was just looking for some honest opinions, only concern would be walking/dogging more bush then normal during deer season (especially if there heavier then my Irish Setters 800gr)

I have had a pair of lace up Irish Setter boots for 15 years now. They are about 9" high and have 1000 grams of Thinsulate. They are warm sitting in the tree stand and comfortable to walk over any terrain all day long. I paid just over $200.00 back in 2006 but they have been worth every cent. They are just starting to show some wear now but still many good years left in them.

we have steel toe rubber insulated boots, very warm and keep you real dry, only thing is they can be heavy. best for when your still hunting. keep your feet and toes warm when youre not movin.

x3 on those Baffin titans. Been on three deep winter camp trips anywhere from -6 to -30 Celsius and could feel my toes the whole time and never got and chafing or blisters. The insulation is no joke and dries out fast. I've also sat on days that were -4 celcius but 40km/h winds where I was chilled to the bone in everywhere but my toes.

I've used these for the last 10 years for winter hunting. All I've had to replace twice are the liners. I heartily recommend them.

My vote for Irish Setter old fashion letter boots they last for decade
I have Elk Tracker and Trailblazer for years
Now I bought spare and will buy one more spare ...
I don't want to stop hunting ...

I imagine the OP has found a pair at this point, but for rabbit hunting where you’re moving all day I’d consider the Mucks or there is a Yukon Gear boot (Cdn Tire) that is modelled after them.

I got new Baffin Titans for ice fishing too but I wouldn’t want to be rabbit hunting in them, too bulky and HOT

I picked up a pair of Dunlop "oil rig boots" with my work boot allowance. I'll put them to the test this fall. Not sure how they're supposed to be so warm without a removable liner but the reviews say people "work all day in 40 below weather in Northern Alberta without cold feet" so we'll see.

The problem with temperature ratings is they're apparently not meant for sitting still.

Excellent late deer hunting boots, and will do a great job in snow trekking too.
Prime ankle support will give you nice walking many miles a day.

If i use snowshoes though,i use boots similar to what Trimmer21 recommended.Lighter model,medium warmth,but super easy on feet while snowshoeing.

I think the key to the warmth in those boots is the super-thick sole. I have Baffin IceBears which are similar but I think the Dunlops might be thicker

Ok good to know, thanks! Been wearing them around the yard these past couple of days and they're definitely "grippy" and feel quite warm through the sole, which is were I usually get cold first (along with the toes).

I originally wanted the Baffin Icebears but they didn't have any and couldn't get any when I went in, so I opted for the Dunlops.

Not the norm for hunting boots but I get 180 bucks a year for boots and don't go through them that fast at work. I actually get supplied with Baffins (workhorse) and spend much of the day in -30 degree temperatures on concrete or on a forklift, and it's more a matter of managing sweat and socks than anything else, as it all seems to be with boots.

You’ve nailed it! You need to keep moving around (upper and lower body) in order for your feet to stay warm. I wouldn’t recommend them for standing around ice-fishing unless you had a shelter to retreat to.
