When you buy a new ATV is there room for negotiating a few hundred off or maybe a free winch.
I have been looking at used but there is almost nothing for sale or they want close to new anyways.
I'm seeing 20 year old Honda and Yamaha asking 4000and a new one is 10 grand taxes in. I have 5000 on hand so might as well buy new.
The way the market is right now, I don't think you're going to get any freebies buying new, but you never know. A lot are already pre sold before they make it to the dealer, so there's no real incentive for them to give away items. Mines 11 years old and if I wanted to sell it, I would probably get 3/4 of new price with no effort.

I'm going to start calling a few dealers I think this week to see what new is going to cost me. I don't need frills and I will install the winch myself.
The Kodiak with out the locker is 10K taxes in the Honda Rancher slightly less. Would be nice to have the Kodiak with the locker but it only comes with the EP model for 12K.
I don't think I need a locker we rarely go mudding as to much work to clean them.
In stock items might offer a bit of wiggle room, not much though. Anything big bore, forget about it.
My brother is six months in waiting on his new SxS.
You mention things being sold out. Bought a new truck in September, wife's buggy is FUBAR, she thought she would take this truck and I was to get another new one as the 2021 has me curious. Made a call to the dealer, I'd be lucky to get one by Christmas as he's sold everything he can order for the year.....

I was in talking to the local Yamaha dealer a couple of weeks ago and mentioned to him how tough the Covid must be on sales. Since last March they've had record sales. No one travelling, spending money on toys so they can have fun at home. He can't keep inventory so unfortunately I think you'll pay top dollar without many freebies. Boats, vehicles, trailers, houses everything is going through the roof.
You're always better off going with a straight deal then buying a winch separately when they're on sale. And they come on sale often. Question is, do you really need a winch in the first place and I'm sure its an accessory that can wait til you can get a better deal.
Too, have you looked in the States for an ATV? Usually good deals there but now you have to consider exchange being significant.
Might be able to get a deal if you can find some left over models from previous year. Brother bought a new kingquad last fall and could have saved 2 grand getting a leftover model. He didn't like the color so he got the more expensive one with the only difference being power steering. Also saved another $200 off each machine as he took a buddy in who ended up buying the other one. My kingquad is 14 years old and was thinking of getting a new one but it runs great and only ever had to replace the battery in it. So I put new tires and rims on a couple months ago and in the spring I'm replacing a wheel bearing and belt and hopefully it'll go another 10 years. It will likely outlast me.

I'm a terrible negotiator as it is, but I've ried, and failed in the last two toys. Bought a new quad last year, paid asking price......just purchased a new boat,...and paid asking price, lol. I asked...they said no..... its going to be the same this year I imagine. If yiu don't have a deposit on something now, the odds of finding a dealer with one at the end of spring will be slim.....I think.....
Getting difficult to drive with the kid on the back, he will be 16 this year. I wonder if the wife would notice a new ATV sitting outback. Maybe I keep it in the barn.

I was hoping with this pandemic there would be some great deals, seems everything went the opposite way.
Facebook is a great place to check and I've been looking myself for a sled but there is no way I'm paying $2,000 for a 20 yr old sled.
I agree with you..try getting parts for a 20 year old sled that won`t break down because of a part you didnt replace!
well this is getting annoying, tried calling to different companies for tire for current ATV can't get through and no spent a few hours reviewing prices for new ATV's and their websites suck.
This is going to be more work then when I had to find a specific car for my wife.
Anything used with a motor is going for crazy prices during covid. Demand is definitely exceeding supply. My son inlaw has been waiting on a 2021 Kawasaki Mule. Dealer said factory has more orders than it can fill at the moment for current model year. They suggested putting in an order for a 2022 so that he would be at the top of the list, and hopefully have one by September.
Not to be sounding like the guy that didn't say lock it up or lose it, I'm sure there may an increase in "easy thefts" and those that will buy without caring about legal ownership.
Funny you mention that, I was looking for a used sled for fishing before I spent all my cash on renovations. A good percentage of the guys I called that had what I was looking for all had no ownership slips for the machines. If I made an offer of their asking price providing they went and got the ownership I would never hear back or I would get the Wuhan virus excise.Quote:

GW your Op was you have 5k on hand...take advantage of low financing rates. Either with your bank or dealer rates are very competitive ..ie Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki etc. Yamaha is offering
1.9% on most machines right now. Kinda of crazy not too buy NEW..IMO

Yes that is what I am thinking, would cost 150 / mth for 35 months and if my contract is renewed and I can just pay it all off.
Still have to call Honda, but I have heard they are back ordered.

If you want a good used atv, Buy one completely stock and owned by someone in their 60s at least.
I could show you 1 year old quads with 1000km on them that I wouldnt own if best deal on earth. These bikes are routinely beat on, full blown mud machines where they do 8hour rides to see who can go the farthest or the deepest.
Now....buy a stock atv with original tires and 3000km, Some old timer putted around his farm for 10 years.
Start getting into tuners, big tires, snorkels your looking into long term problems and $$$$.
Couldn't be a worse time in the history of man to buy anything toy related right now LOL I check kijiji 10x a day, Have for last 5 years at least. Its what ya gotta do to find the deal. I buy old Honda stuff.

I use Facebook Marketplace pretty much exclusively now for buy and sell. If I'm selling, I find there are less tire kickers, and none of the absurd offers to trade something (i.e. an offer for half your asking price plus a 1970's lawnmower that worked when last used 20 years ago). When I'm buying, the sellers are actually interested in making a deal. It just seems more personal than the general anonymity of Kijiji.Quote:

I've owned a 2013 800 which has no problems. My brother has 2012 650 and he's pretty hard on it and has bit of work done to it but can't complain.
My dad has a 2006 400 max xt outlander and he's owned since new. About 6000km on it and dont think its ever been to the dealer for problems.
Problems with every quad. My cousin owns a 2020 850, ill see how it is before I buy one
