Threaded rifle muzzles. Why?

While doing some rifle shopping recently I noted small caliber rifles from Ruger, Howa, Mossberg and Savage with threaded muzzles. Perhaps there is some merit to a muzzle brake on a large magnum but what is the point to having them on a .22 rimfire, .223 or other small caliber? Suppressors are regrettably not legal, a muzzle brake on a rimfire rifle seems unnecessary and a threaded muzzle barrel and cap creates one more thing to lose or perhaps rust if your gun gets wet. What's the appeal? :confused:

Ask the kid with the souped up Honda Civic what is with his hood scoop, custom exhaust, lowering kit and that stupid trunk spoiler?

Threaded bbl is for custom muzzle brakes - just a tacticool accessory you can put on a gun.

It's still only a recent change in I'd say in last five perhaps 10 years. Even in the U.S. suppressors are not legal in all states and even where they are must be registered and a $200 tax paid.

But it a plausible answer your question..

But I looked it up and the Colour Glossy for the Ruger .223 says they come pre-threaded for a Muzzle Break..an accessory Item.

Supressors.

Canada is a drop in the bucket compared to what American's buy.

Funny thing about suppressors , in the UK they are mandatory for hunting! Some of the toughest gun regs, but require suppressors. Go figger'!

I've shot suppressors in the UK. If I could change one prohibition in Canada this would be it.

Meanwhile on threaded muzzles in Canada is anyone actually using them? What have you attached to the end of your barrel?

I would suspect marketing-sales analyses dictate which rifles get threaded barrels in the manufacturing process. Legalities as to which areas permit suppressors would be the least of their concern.

My 10/22 takedown has threaded muzzle has muzzle brake on it should have included thread saver

It is the perception of muzzle brake helping accuracy. Another way to sell a useless accessory in small cal.

I have a smokeless ML that has a radial brake I use when I’m trying to shoot nickel size groups at 300 yards while pushing a 300 plus grain pill at 3000 FPS. It helps immensely for that purpose but in anything under 6.5 I’m not sure of the benefit...

I have a .17HMR that has a threaded barrel for suppressor or muzzle break. It has a thread cap on it to protect the threads and I can see me never taking it off. But at the same time, even though it wouldn't do much for sound, I would put a suppressor on it if i could.....just because!!!
