I wonder if GW has any home videos ??
( JK buddy )
I've has a few close calls back in the bush, video worthy cringe moments.
Back in 98 a lot of trees came partial down in the freezing rain storm. So there are lots of tree leaning on each other which make for a nasty 'widow marker' scenarios.
What could possibly go wrong.
I’m sure some people got seriously hurt or killed.
That’s why no cameras allowed rule pays dividends
1:50 was pretty epic LOL
I lifted those junks by myself into the back of the trailer.
I remember seeing that years ago, you must have been about 30 then :)
I think I can still pass for 30, told wife I should go back to college or university and pick up a younger woman.
She didn't think I was very funny. After 26 years of being married to me she would have A sense of humour.
Guy watches you tube how to, guy thinks "I can do that" reality catches guy in the butt real quick.
Sometimes things happen that just shouldn't, none of these were those times. Heh

Watching the original video - some of those guys either got killed or badly injured and the guy on the bike came close to getting killed - I've been burning wood and cutting down trees since the mid 70s and had some close calls early on because of lack of experience - you got to be careful - and GW I hope that you wear hearing protection and a hard hat now - oh and stopped smoking - believe me you will pay when you get old
Nope still don't wear hearing protection doesn't seem to affect me much. I have always had very good hearing above normal and still do.
Well can't stop smoking right now as I just bought 8 cartons. I keep thinking about it, but not much point now as I have been smoking for almost 40 years, can't see it doing much good this late in the game.
I had great hearing too. Right up until I didn’t. Now wearing hearing aids. And really wishing I was smarter about protecting my hearing. Trust me wearing hearing protection some times is way better than wearing hearing aids all the time
As for smoking I’m sure you know there is a great benefit to quitting no matter how long you have smoked
I had friend that I use to go hunting and fishing with - he smoked big time - he is dead now but I remember the last time I talked to him over the phone he could hardly talk - he was hooked up to an oxygen machine - I remember always telling him to stop smoking - he didn't listen - he was younger than me - same with the hearing - I wear hearing aids if I want to watch tv or when I go out somewhere - the spring peepers were making a racket round my pond but I couldn't hear them unless I had my hearing aids on - when I'm outside doing working around the property I don't wear them because I don't want to lose them - very expensive
Yeh just talked last week to an old partner from the job, same thing he could hardly talk on the phone and was complaining about now not being able to walk 15 feet at one time. I feel bad for him and have tried to help him over the years haying an doing yard clean up, but 45 years of smoking and hitting the booze takes its toll. He is the same age as me but I suspect he may not be around for much longer.
My hearing is still well above average and well the smoking not much can be said been smoke since I was 13 or 14 can't remember now and I am almost 52. So with that many years of smoking a pack a day not much can be repaired now.

I guess I will have to save you if I 'am going to convert you to the Liberal side. LOL
My Grandfather (Mothers side) quit smoking for 8 years died on the 8th with a heat attack at 62.
Nope can't see much point in quitting something I enjoy that has probably already don it's damage.
Looks like audition time for Darwin Awards. I cut probably 10 to 12 face cord a year and anything too sketchy looking gets left for a contractor or until i have the Cat 375 hyhoe available.
I use to be able to drop a tree right on my knife, but the past few years I have missed twice when I should not have. A friend asked if I would cut the tree leaning near his house as he has seen me in the past. But I told him no to risky as I had missed twice in the past few years and my aim for dropping tree's is not what it use to be.
I still stick my knife in the ground and always hit it but those two times show I am no longer as good as I was. Probably because I don't cut as much as I use to. Going to do one more big push this year and cut 10 - 20 face. Half to sell and half for me. With 30 face out back and now only heating with wood part time I only go through 5 face a year. So I have 6 years worth out back. I will still cut a small amount after that maybe 2 or 3 a year.
It would be tough to quit when you enjoy smoking and really don't want to in the first place. I smoked a pack a day when I was young but my wife didn't smoke so that was incentive for me to give it a try. And I wanted to quit too so that helped a lot. I know you have a young family still so the only incentive you have now is to quit for their sake. Can't imagine checking out in late 40's or early 50's and leaving the kids without a father.
I used to love me a cigarette or 7, didn't want to quit but when the young lady came around I didn't want her seeing it as a good idea. One can argue all they want quitting is better for you than not, that said if you don't want to quit, no amount of nagging from anyone will get you to do it. I'm 8 years in now and I still have cravings but it's fewer and farther between. I would honestly never go back to it, life is easier without them.
As for the hearing protection, all I will say is that you don't know what you have until it's gone. I went from far above average to 25% in the left and 50% in the right all in the matter of a year. It was like a switch flipped, here today, gone tomorrow. (Punny, I know). It sucks to see deer walking on frosty leaves and not be able to hear it, my hunting has suffered in a big way because of it. I really miss the sound of duck wings cutting the air in the morning fog or the faint purr of a grouse about to flush. On the bright side, marriage is far easier when you can't hear.

So yeah no incentive money wise.
Also if I quit smoking I will probably gain much more weight and according to the BMI index I am 30 + pounds over. BMI says I should weigh 185 I prefer 190 but right now I weigh 220.
But first I have to see if I make it pass 53. So far only 3 people have my Father, Uncle and some Uncle back in the 1800's.
I have two bad habits to much beer and smokes.
When I met my wife, I use to brew beer and bottle in 2 litre pop bottles then I could tell I was just going to have 1 or 2 beer.:moose:
I don't brew my own anymore gave up since the second kid was born 22 years ago and since then all my buckets have been used for gardening, still have the glass carboy.
Also don't think beer is good for diabetics, but I a going to close my eyes to that.
American elm - did you have fun splitting that wood? XD
I don't smoke. I quit after every cigarette.
