Well my old Hens were just not laying many eggs anymore so I gave them away a few weeks ago, on Saturday I picked up 6 new Cuckoo Marans and 6 Ameraucana hens.
They should start laying around Sept or early Oct.

Nice, I buy my eggs locally, the lady has them running free during the day. I get white, light brown, dark brown and the bluish turquoise ones so she must have some of your breeds.
Right now I am getting so many eggs I can't keep up eating them or giving them to family - I hope they are healthy for you because I am eating a lot

During most of Covid I gave away my eggs for free but will start selling again once these start producing.
I get about 5 - 6 dozen a week, so I sell about 4 dozen of them 5 bucks a dozen. Just enough to pay for the feed and a dozen beer.
Sure thing the feed is not cheap. She asked me if I could save the empty dried egg shells, no problem, every three weeks I go back with a paper bag full.
I don't find the feed expensive between 16 - 21 depending on where I am headed at the time. 2 bags will do 12 birds.
Grew up on a farm with 20,000 laying hens. We picked and graded all our eggs by hand until the early the early 80s than the old man (actually my dad and his 4 brothers and my grandfather) sold the quota and farm off. Still like eating eggs but have no desire to be anywhere near a live chicken ever again. Picked enough eggs to feed an army back in the day as did all my siblings and all my cousins on my dad's side.
They took all that quota/farm money and set up a mixed operation out west. Some cash crops, feedlot, dairy and a 6 figure stud bull whose semen they shipped all over the world. Did quite well for themselves. Most of them are out it now but still have a cousin who grows specialty grains for different craft distilleries and another cousin that runs about 20,000 head of beef in feedlot alley. My parents actually still live on the beef farm in one of the company houses. Old man is 88 but he still likes to putter around on the farm.
One day I went out to pick up the eggs - there was one egg that was about 3 times bigger than the others - when I cracked it open there was a complete egg inside of this egg - shell and all -
Like this? I have gotten an egg that size before but there was just a giant yolk in it.
