My Brother Died

Got some sad news this morning - my older brother Lou passed away from complications with kidney stones - he was my only brother - he was 90 years old - it makes me realize that as you get older the sand in the hour glass is running out - living until your 90 I guess is pretty good compared to others who die at a much younger age - my father was only 53 when he died - but it reinforces the fact that our stay on this earth is temporary and we should live it in such a way that we always do what is right - it is times like this that my faith brings me the blessed hope that some day I will see him again along with all of my loved ones who have made the journey -

Very sorry to hear that joe but I have to think that 90 is a good run. My father died at 67 and I’m pretty much a clone of him.

Hitting 51 now makes me think that I need to make the best of my remaining days

He was a very good baseball player when in high school - actually had major league scouts wanting him to sign up for some minor league clubs but he didn't think that he wanted to go that route - he was an Army veteran - was stationed in Germany after the war - had a chance to visit my grandmother and relatives living in Bavaria - at that time soldiers had to wear their uniforms - he told me about the time when my grandmother took him to a beer garden after church he didn't think he was going to get out of there alive from the dirty looks he got from the other Germans in the place - he had 2 sons - his wife passed away about 4 years ago - he was the managing editor for a news paper for most of his working life - was a big guy - we grew up in a very close family - mom was a housewife and pop worked in the coal mines until his two brothers got killed - we were poor but at the time didn't know it because every one else was also poor - he was a good family man - what better thing can you say about a guy

Yes when something like this happens it makes you think - I lost my wife 23 years ago to cancer - we have 5 children - the youngest one MaryAnn has Downs Syndrone and I've been taking care of her since she pass away - still think of her every day - it gets tough at times

Great story Joe. He sounds like he was a all around great guy. My Great Grandmother was Pennsylvania Dutch.

Sounds like you have great memories of him Joe. And it sounds like he lived a good life. We are all here for but a very short time in eternity. I lost my father when I was 10 yrs of age. I hope to meet him again one day, as I'm sure you will meet your brother. Take care!

The sad thing is we view death as an end, when in reality it may well be the opportunity for a new beginning. As one door closes another usually opens, if in life why not in death It’s good to hear that you cherish the hope of a future rendezvous.
