Retail carnage

I took my fleet vehicle in for service this morning at our local CTC.
A couple of hours wait, store closed, lounge also closed so had no choice but to go for a walk.

I headed to a popular pedestrian shopping area up the street.
What I found was very depressing. At least 3 quarters of the stores have for lease signs in their front windows.
Micro breweries closed as well. The lockdowns have been devastating.
You may not be personally affected but thousands are for sure and will never recover.

If this is the Globalists idea of a "New Normal" they can stick it where the sun don't shine.

Unfortunately, restaurants, bars, clubs and brew houses suffered more than their fair share of the COVID lockdowns. The last shutdown caught lots of places by surprise - many read about the 3rd lockdown announcements shortly after placing orders with their food and beverage suppliers.

I definitely feel for them and we order take-out from local independent restaurants every Friday or Saturday to break it up for us and keep them going. I have a feeling that when things open the cost of dining out will be on the rise so they can recoup 2 years of losses.

Guy on CTVs 'Wine and Dine' the other night said he had just received $6K worth of food when the announcement was made. He's hoping his curbside sales will help mitigate the lose, but it may be the proverbial 'straw'.

How many COVID transmissions have occurred in restaurants that practice 30% capacity limits with tables spread apart (most of the times by over 15 ft), sanitization of tables, digital menus, and wearing of face masks when not eating or drinking?

My neighbor who is an assistant TDCanTrust manager tells me there was an e-mail circulated to him last week from corporate with business forecasts for the next 6 months that stated the chances of 75% of all small business re-opening when restrictions are lifted are exceedingly remote. Many clients have officially closed permanently and were in the process of liquidating to cover the most they can for open business loan accounts. It appears that banks will be left holding a lot of worthless paper.

Haven't seen proof anywhere that restaurants were a source of community transmissions.

No significant "events" that I have heard of either, the odd staff that caught it but that is more likely a large location like Walmart or Sobeys.

We decided to try and buy from smaller shops or local restaurants, in this Liberal exacerbated fubar mess the best you can do is try and shop or have delivered what you can. They were talking as many as 60% of shops and restaurants would not survive and I am betting that number will be higher. I have noticed that several of my favourites are no longer on the delivery pages and have been replaced by Taco bell or Burger King, I may have to do pickups or try new restaurants if the old ones are gone. There are ways to help the local shops/stores out but it takes an effort and you will likely pay a bit more than a pickup from Canadian Tire or Walmart.

It is not the restaurant, it is that people are using going out to dinner as a way to congregate. The problem is the people going to the restaurants to meet friends, using the restaurant to facilitate congregation amongst people who do not live in the same household, so they had to close everything.

Call them and order/pickup directly, those places take up to 30% off the top, the business does make a sale but makes very little off those sales.

I know, all are 25%+ in the past, I used to help some friends with their restaurant on misc things and Ubereats is the best and Skip the Dishes the worst. Ubereats let's you increases the price and takes a smaller percentage while Skip the Dishes used to (may not now) demanded the online and in store prices were the same and were 3% more thank UberEats (essentially you would loose money to sell on Skip). DoorDash was about the same as UberEats and let you increase the item price so selling online made sense and the % was the same but had some tech issues in Canada, should be good too by now. I still get some of the emails on business offers and buying offers and UberEats seems the best at trying to let the business keep more, Door Dash I haven't got updates for awhile and after a call with the owner/Skip the Dishes and myself I deleted the app, unsubscribed and recommended they not sign up with them, they didn't.

For those that don't or can't get out it is an alternative, the pickup is the best choice for the buyer and restaurant of course.

Not really ... that is just dreaming stuff up. When you sign in at a restaurant, you are required to show identification ... and only sit at a table with members of the same household.

So, if these rules were followed (and even enforced) ... why do you need to shut down the restaurants.

Even when the rules were broken, what data do you have that suggests restaurants were major outbreak mechanisms ... I'm going to guess, it's just guesswork.

Here's what I think ... there is a principle being followed by government, that if you stop mobility (all forms of it), you stop COVID.
What the proponents of this strategy fail to see is that is likely cutting out all of a body's internal organs, because there is cancer in one location (let's pick a lung). In other words, it is far too aggressive, and ends up destroying the body ... just like this stupid strategy has destroyed our economy and many, many small businesses that will not re-open, because the money is BURNED.

Here's what else I think ... I think government is being lazy. It's easy to just shut down everything ... you don't have to do anything other than create a blanket law .... very easy to enforce too. But again, that comes at a HUGE cost to the economy. A smart, hard working government will determine the mechanisms of transmission (where/how) and then come up with solutions (design changes, policy changes) to stop those transmissions on a case by case basis ... NOT shut down every business from the northern boarders of Ontario to the south, east and west ... it's absurd, and it's LAZY.

X2-our Governemnt in all levels(yes-even Municipalities)do not really do their jobs to mitigate/lessen the COVID blow.

"Political correctness"-laziness-fear of not being re elected -lack of care for many people-even opportunisam.

Which begs the question of why “we” haven’t had to step up, and or compensate those paying prices....

And subsequent to that.
Who are the proponents. And who aren’t speaking out.

Nimbyism at its finest.

And while efforts to compensate etc are pathetic, we also have mountains of new debt, that we won’t pay for either. Our grandchildren, who are decades away from voting will.

Have you had enough of CONS/LIBS..ready for Libertarians who will not lock you down, but instead leave that decision up to the individual business owners to assess risk for themselves.

The lockdowns and data are flawed, and is being used to kill small businesses across Canada.

That is the issue........If you want the Liberals out your only choice is Conservative. NDP is really a fringe party as all the other ones out there. Hell during the last elections the NDP could not even read a financial document properly so how can you trust them to develop one!

We had a 25K in the 2018 election budget total to spend. The bank account had 35K in it total. We bought media ads in papers, we bought air time on radio. We can only spend what we had and keep the annualized costs in the bank.

We ran 117 candidates out of 124..and you think the MSM would publish this, celebrate or even write a story on it. NOT a peep in this huge undertaking completed by the 5th largest party in the province. We ran more then Libs, NDP or Greens in 2018..nothing in the media at all.

So that is the challenge in order to compete we need money. The 4 main parties get approx 4.3M from taxpayers, before they even raise a dime locally. It is a struggle, but, we accept doing something is far better then doing nothing,

Oh I agree, and he is still running on the 650K raised during last election. So he is leaps and bounds ahead of us on the federal level. I had met with Max 3 times and considered a run in Barrhaven during the election.

He is doing what he needs to do, as most of our leaders have jobs and responsibilities and are by default NOT independently wealthy like Max - I am happy for the PPC - because anything is better then current 4 main parties (+BLOC)

Our provincial leader was out every weekend during the first 9 months of lockdowns in TO, got many fines, lead many rallies..but again no traction from media. He has since stepped down (pers issues), and, we have interim leader right now, I am back as Vice Chairman. There will be a Leadership Contest in Nov 2021, which I will be joining again (I lost by 2 votes in 2019), and hoping to take us into 2022 Election as the leader of the Ontario Libertarian Party.

Neither the PPC or Libertarians have a chance to even get a seat in the next Federal election and a vote for them is just helping Justlied, simple, plain, full stop! If they want a voice at the table they should do like the greens did, focus on one riding and get in and show that unlike the greens they can be adults at the table.

Doug isn't Wynne or Lib.... that is a plus in my book.... that doesn't mean he is the best but just better than the options.

As for the carnage, signed up for TruLocal got the delivery awhile back, very happy with the quality and some interesting meat selections (buffalo and lamb burgers are very good and different) and frozen options like strawberries and mango and kale. Local businesses should be supported if the price difference isn't going to hurt the buyer.... often very little diff.

If Covid was a deliberate biological weapon used against us, do you actually think a liberal official or even a conservative in current power will be able to simply walk down the street without fear of their life. Seriously!
