Down here this would have gone in a different direction - you don't get stopped if you don't commit a traffic violation - if you do it is unlawful stop - we are instructed to use the 5th amendment and don't say anything - and we always have the right to sue the cop if he violates our rights - these stops are getting like the Nazis stopping you to check your papers - next is -"ve got vays of making people tock"

Ya, not cool.... pulling over someone for no reason and then demanding a test and ID.... doesn't sound like the Canada I want it to be.
Do you have R.I.D.E. type stops down there Joe ?
R.I.D.E. stands for “Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere.” It is an Ontario sobriety program that was established in 1977 with the purpose of reducing the number of tragic accidents and injuries resulting from impaired driving. ... as a justification for stopping and checking drivers.
What you were watching happened in Canada not in the States - down here a cop can't lawfully stop you unless you commit a traffic violation - if he does you can file a complaint and if you think it is worth it sue the cop - the one thing I notice that is different in Canada is up there a cop will arrest you even if he is not sure if you committed a crime - he lets the judge determine what the outcome is - down here a cop needs to be certain what law was broken before he arrests you otherwise it is a false arrest and that could have consequences for the cop - there are places where the cops set up check points where a driver can be stopped and asked if he was drinking or if the cop smells booze on the driver - these are not random stops because everyone is checked as they pass through the check point -
We have to 5th amendment that allows us to keep quiet and answer no questions - we have the 4th amendment that protects us from unlawful search and seizure and the 1st amendment to be able to express our opinion and take pictures of the cops - cops often try to work around these rights but lately a lot of them are getting in trouble
Finally watched more than the first minute. That is nothing new JoePa, cops like to use bully tactics in Canada. Most of the sheepish and uneducated will automatically comply. Then there are those who know their rights and exercise them when needed.
If you allow yourself to be walked on, blame nobody but yourself, welcome to the great white north

I thought I just did by speaking up against it :)
The powers that be, should have never given this tool to the police. Doing something wrong, sure pull me other and check me out but pull me over because they feel like it, (their bored or maybe they got a bet going with their buddy who knows because they never have to tell us why they pulled on over) is wrong. We dropped the ball by letting this law pass.
Out in the rural areas the RIDE is the only way...far too many road miles to keep an eye on everyone. Best to set up RIDEs at places that cross rivers etc that funnel drivers.
I hit traps regularly....one was an officer just standing in the middle of the road in a small village checking for seats belts as you rounded the corner. Barely had the traffic even slow down.
I got stopped by a RIDE at 11:00 am one morning at a bridge. I asked the officer how successful they were at that time of the day...she said you'd be amazed at how many charges they laid.
Well, I guess if you have had to scrape some innocent person out of their car, or off the road as a result of some impaired driver, then have to go tell their mother, father, kids, that that person wasn’t coming home…..your opinions would change !
But keep blaming the cops !!!
Once again you have no idea.
You better believe they can and will arrest you for doing nothing down there, they will shoot you for doing nothing down there.
Do do not have to answer any questions in Canada either, you can also have charges laid on the cops and or sue them.
Maybe you should look into how many cops get off with murder down there before posting videos of guys acting like pricks in Canada getting charged by the cops with no context.
Have you watched the video of the guy running away from the cop in the park when he pulls out his gun and unloads a full clip into his back, maybe you should.
Cops “up here” do not arrest people if they are unsure an arrestable offence has been
committed. They must have grounds to arrest. As far as traffic stops, police have the authority to stop a driver to check for valid licences. They do not have to see an offence committed. The nitwit in your video was driving, stopped lawfully, and refused to identify himself or produce a licence. He should have been in the back seat, rather than left to argue with the officer….at least in Ontario…..

Barring a handful of examples, the myth that evil, racist cops are hunting down innocent people for sport is absolutely ridiculous. This is the lie that basically started BLM with Michael Brown. If anything, due to the PC overlords controlling every aspect of our lives these days, most officers in Canada are hesitant to draw their weapon. Every time they do they basically have to write an essay as to why. And they know the media and the SIU ('special investigation unit' for our American friend Joe) are breathing down their necks constantly.
There was an example recently in the U.S. of a young man being shot to death at very close range in a hotel hallway, while being told to crawl on his knees towards the cop. The man was in clear distress and the instructions from the officer were very confusing...the video is beyond disturbing. One of the worst examples of blatant incompetence and police brutality I've ever seen. I can agree with you that things like this are bad, and that the officer responsible should be prosecuted fully. I don't remember much national outrage over that however.
There was a similar situation to what happened with George Floyd back in 2016, but the suspect, Tony Timpa, did not receive any media coverage. No national cries of outrage. No monuments. No multi-million dollar settlement to his family. And I believe the case against the cops was dismissed. They pinned him down for 14 minutes.
Fact is, most police shootings are a result of negligence, resistance, or violence on the part of the suspect. The stats indicate that police are much more likely to be the victim in an altercation or routine stop than vice versa. There are hundreds of examples of people shooting at police in broad daylight, driving off and running them over, wrestling with the officer for their gun, etc. But it doesn't fit the narrative and doesn't get any coverage. There are good and bad cops, but if you act appropriately your risk of being harmed is extremely low.
Look what happened recently in Toronto with constable Jeffrey Northrup.
I know a lot of officers, and if you talk to them you would be astounded at their stories.
I have a CLOSE friend (like see him every week) that is a cop.
The issue isn't him, or his buddies who are all great people (his perspective is educating the public, not ticketing and jailing people ... very refreshing view). But even he will admit, there's a few cops out there on an absolute power trip ... some even break the law themselves and don't really give a crap, they kind of act like their untouchable. THAT is the problem. None of THOSE FEW COPS should exist. Not a single one.
I agree. The few bad apples spoil it for the bunch, unfortunately. But it's not indicative of a pattern or large 'systemic' problem.
As soon as they took away carding, shootings absolutely surged in Toronto. To fight crime, and to help those in bad areas, we actually need more police not less (even if that's just to educate). And the police need to get their marching orders from leaders with actual spines. Not clown world PC social justice weirdos.
Always keep this in mind - as you give up your rights for the sake of safety who are giving up something precious and will never get them back - you may live in a very safe society but you are nothing but a number with no rights - I would rather live in a dangerous society but be free -
The cops often say that they are here to protect and serve - I don't see that happening - a lot of people don't know this but the police are not required to protect you and as far as serving the big thing they do is serve tickets - I think the entire area of policing needs to be redone so that the citizens can trust cops - and cops protect the rights of citizens - and are educated in the law that they are trying to enforce - and once a cop fails to properly act he should be fired and not work in law enforcement again - the other thing that is bad is the ability of cops to lie to you to a point you can't trust what they are saying - the so called good cops need to stop standing around while a rogue cop is doing something wrong - by doing that they are hurting themselves and whole police force - in reality they are not good cops - Chauvin was kneeling on the guys neck and the other three cops are standing around watching and trying to keep people from filming what was going on -
