I see this in the buy and sell sections all the time, CGN has a lot of them.
Guys that are not dealers are selling guns that "I never fired".
I am not being critical of it but I am curious as to how many people go out and buy guns just to resell them? Seems odd to me.
I am not speaking of collectible arms, hunting arms.
One of my buddies has so many unfired guns blow your mind. Pushing triple digits
Another has at least 4 maybe couple more
So when someone says never fired I tend to believe them
So why did they buy them? Like I said, not collector pieces but rather run of the mill hunting guns. To me having an unfired Savage Axis just to look at seems odd, ha ha.Quote:

I'm no damn good at collecting. Last one was a great deal on a winchester single shot .22 low wall, but had to try it out. Turns out I hated the sights on it and sold it off. Still made $300 on the deal and I didn't sell it as unfired either. If its something I don't use and is just taking up space then its out the door. Except for 1 old double barrel shotgun that belonged to my grandfather. I guess I did have a CVA Optima I sold unfired. But I bought it a week before hip surgery that didn't go well and spent 2 years in and out of hospital for more surgeries and sold it never having fired it.
I've twice bought a gun and not shot it but only because I was immediately flipping it. Otherwise all my guns get used.
Impulse buying, I’m definitely guilty lol. I always go to “old faithful” when hunting season comes around. Into the safe and the wifey knows nothing..haha

Yea if there are collectors items or might be collectible some guys do it as a hobby and/investment.
Never understood why a guy would have a cabinet full of hunting rifles and not take them to the range and put a box of ammo thru them periodically.
Sort of like having a beautiful girlfriend/wife and not doing a booty call..HaHa..
This one guy usually gets a box of ammo for each gun he buys thrown in with the deal. Never uses it.
I can remember being with him gun shop oh gun caught his eye he looked at it gave it back to salesman. Said let’s go went out side let’s go to tsc store next door walked around came back out he said I’m going to buy that gun ok went got the gun drove home. Couple hours later he called me said I have two just like that one in my gun room lol

I have a friend that gets excited every hunting season, buys guns and then decides not to hunt, he has at least 6 rifles and shotgun that never been shot, im just waiting for him to want to get rid of those.
Never made much sense to me. I have my fair share but I like to take each one out for a walk on the weekends. Depending on the game and conditions each firearm has its purpose. I’ve only sold a couple from my safe but have felt guilty afterwords. Probably won’t do that again.
I'm guilty of this. When I first got my rpal I went out and bought a nice 12 guage shotgun. Thought I would start hunting or at least going to the range regularly. However never did get the time to go to the range and had no friends that were hunters. So sold it at a nice discount to a friend of mine who is a gun enthusiast - he's run plenty of rounds through it - and I'm happy because it was just sitting in my gear closet collecting dust.
Sometimes you just lose interest. I always wanted a small-bore muzzleloader. Bought a mint .36 Calibre Seneca, kept it for a year or two, never did fire it. Sold it never having fired it.
As much as I love hunting, I’m not a gun nut. My armoury consists of a single-shot 12 gauge, lever action .22, .22 air rifle, and a single-shot 30.06. All have been fired numerous times.
Seems to me that some guys just love guns and collecting them. As others have suggested, perhaps impulse buying has a lot to do with it i.e. “That looks cool, I think that I’ll buy it”. Once they get home they may realize that they have better firearms for the task at hand, so the new gun never gets used except for the odd fondle.

Fox, you make a valid point. When I was looking to switch things up a little, I considered getting into front stuffers or sticks and string, in the end I stuck to my comfort zone and bought a SS rifle. One day, if I live long enough, I wouldn’t mind trying my hand with a compound bow.Quote:

I bought a really nice rifle, a Model 700 stainless fluted in .300 Savage (100th Anniversary fancy-schmantzy), unfired and mint.
Before I shot it, a local guy sold me back a really nice Model 99 in .300 that I wish I'd never sold him.
I only need one .300 Savage around, so I plan to sell the 700, but hesitate to fire it because the value will drop by a bunch.
Mind you, if it doesn't sell, I'll likely fire it and take the loss, lol.
An expensive gun to shot....hard to find brass for too..

Guns are a great place to put extra cash that don't need to sit in a bank or that the good wife don't need to know about.and can easily be turned back into cash should the need arise.
It is a BIT pricey, but ammo is available at Canadian Tire and I handload. And I got 4 boxes of ammo with the rifle.Quote:

I am curious what the really old ones will do for value, would a 150 year old gun gain at a faster rate than a modern run of the mill gun as rarity goes up.
It's all about the market....really old guns do far better being sold down south where there are more collectors with deep pockets. If you leave them in an Estate you'll get better return for them in an auction house in the US than one here. A friends buddy passed and his instructions were for his widow to contact the auction house in the US and sell the collection there. Not a bad deal, his lifetime hobby of collecting netted her over $1 million US..Quote:
