I believe that you tell the good with the bad and laugh or cry about it then move on.

I received my string back from Boo Custom Strings last week after being re-served and I installed it on my bow and all I had to do was shoot it to make sure the scope is still on zero. Work was slow and I had an all company town hall that went for an hour and decided to shoot by bow as I listened on mute. I put my ear buds in, opened the Teams meeting on my phone and was listening on mute. I carried my block to the back corner of my yard (by my shed) and walked back 20yds my chair. I ranged it and it was 20yds exactly. I cocked my bow, put the safety on and set it down on the couch and went in the house to get my coffee. I came back out and was pre-occupied with what they were saying on the conference call and set down my coffee, picked up my bow, sat down in the chair and I flicked the safety off and I heard that god awful TWANG sound!!!???

I accidentally dry fired my Micro 335 and it did not like it.....not one bit. The anti-dry fire mechanism did not stop the string from being released and the energy released on those small limbs ripped my string to shreds. I wanted to puke - I was all ready for the season and just needed to verify my zero and now, because of my lack of attention, I am back at square one (actually I am not even at square one yet). I took it to Excalibur in KW and just as I suspected - there is a crack in one of the limbs, the mounting hardware is slightly bent, and my anti-dryfire mechanism is not working and needs to be replaced. I cannot give these guys at Excalibur enough praise. Not only did I get new limbs they installed new mounting hardware, a new anti dryfire mechanism, they polished my trigger release (not required but he like to do it when bows come in) AND gave me a new string - all while I waited (45minutes). While it was there I had the larger stirrup and spacer installed so that my NAO spitfires do not extend past the stirrup.

If this was any other bow I would be shipping it to god knows where and I would probably not see it back until 1Q22 and my season would be over. It is reasons like this why I am glad I am shooting an Excalibur. I also fessed up to Don at Boo Custom Strings about what happened and placed an order for another replacement string.

That's bad luck John but in the end you will probably harvest another fantastic buck this year.

I have read a lot of great thing about Excalibur and I am thinking about getting a bow to extend my season, they are at the top of the list. When I used my old Horton I had a hard time drawing it up and hated all that firing an arrow to unload. I like those bows now with the mechanism to just turn a crank and undo the same way. But they are expensive.

Ouch, that is not how you want to start the hunting season. Glad you were able to get everything worked out with such a quick turn around. I'm glad I bought my excalibur after hearing stories of them going above and beyond.

Sorry to hear about your mishap but glad to hear that Excalibur came clean again.....not surprised. I will never own another crossbow other than Excalibur

Maybe I am not understanding something, but my biggest concern would be why my crossbow fired as a result of taking the safety off. Or did you leave out the part about pulling the trigger?

Great that you got it all taken care of that fast. I dry fired my exomax once but those old super wide excal recurves did not seem to mind it so much.

Hey 410 - don't beat yourself up on the dry fire - it happens more often than people are willing to admit to LOL.

Happy you did not get hurt and had an Excalibur Micro 355 which is relatively "simple" in keeping with the old style Excalibur bows (unlike the latest offerings like the assassin model). If you would have dry fired one of those other brands with cams and wheels, there would have been pieces flying all over the place and probably your bow would be toast LOL.

I am glad you got great service from Excalibur. I have been worried about their legendary service of old after they got taken over by Bowtech. Glad to see it has not been diminished!

Sorry it took me a bit.......yes I left the part out about pulling the trigger as that is usually the next step after taking the safety off. I was more concerned about why the anti-dryfire mechanism did not stop my string

I did that for 1 season and either lost or destroyed too many bolts to count. The wider limbed bows are easier to and uncock but are larger to carry. The cocking mechanisms are built in on some of the bigger & faster bows like the Bulldog 440 and yes these are expensive bows. I did see a removable cocking aid that was about $150 - $175 and looks like it can be used with any Excalibur bow - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TN5n-1o5f28

I used to be able to uncock my Exocet by hand (with gloves) but I would not try that with a Matrix and definitely NOT the Micro - great way to lose fingers. All in all Excaliburs are accurate, strong and durable bows and I would highly recommend one to anyone.

The new twinstrike has a much better anti dry fire system.

If you don't load an arrow it won't release the string.

The old ADF although usually reliable still let's the string go with no arrow but it messes with the trigger and scope mount because the energy has to go somewhere... :(

I just put a charger crank on my 380 a month ago. Have ligament damage in my left wrist and had trouble cocking the bow last year. I still uncock it with the old rope as I find it less awkward and quicker and I don't need my left hand to do it. The crank sure makes a difference.

I'd sure like to get the crank and have heard good things about it. It would make reloading in the stand that much easier if ever a follow up shot was needed.

I really like the micro's, I bought one for my oldest boy that doesn't use it now. I'm thinking I should give him my 380 and start using his 355 micro. Excalibur has a good service desk. I have a crankaroo I believe it is call for the 380, needed it for a couple years for health reasons. String broke on it, called them up and they shipped a new string same day, got it the next day.

You got a great ending, i am glad for that.......Excalibur is no par for these kind of things.
They go out of their way ,and "add" or"up"product or service in a case of an issue.
Regardless how that happened.

Exactly.......they did not even mention that it was me that dry fired the bow. They were more concerned of getting it fixed so I get to hunting!
