I am going back and forth on this. I’ll update which way I am leaning when I get a few opinions.
With the absence of cubs,it looks too big for a sow. My best guess is a boar and a damn big one at that.
That’s the only one coming in
Once every 10 days
Tough one, Boar that size I think the belly would sag to the ground and even though the head is huge, it’s seem small for body size.
My guess is dry Sow and probably done with Cubs.
Beautiful bear.
You need daytime pics.
If your bringing bait in evening I would try first thing in morning.
Good Luck.
I’m almost 50/50 on this and here are my reasons….
Boar Pros:
Front paws are toed in when walking
No neck
Short muzzle
Thick ankles
Awesome head crease
Boar cons :
Should be taller
Needs more belly
In some pics the muzzle looks longer
Agreed daytime pics would be awesome. It would be nice if it would come in more frequently. So far it’s only hit this bait are twice since I opened it in September. Maybe with the colder weather it will.
Regardless of gender it looks like a good bear. I just don’t know how I’d feel about taking a sow.
I cant see why you would be concerned with taking a sow, it's not like there's any cubs involved. I sure wouldn't hesitate with that one. If you really have to know hang a bait high enough in a spot that the bear will have to be on it's back legs with genitals exposed.
Thanks Smitty. I appreciate it.
The first bear I ever harvested was on the last day of the spring 2020 season. It was a sow. No cubs around. I had been watching that bear for a couple of weeks. I guess I just felt a little guilty about taking a sow out of the reproductive chain.
Maybe I’m over thinking it. Maybe I’m watching too many YouTube hunters or outfitters.
All in all,no cubs, big bear.Observed many times lonely.
There are plenty of bears all over the place to worry about the reproductive chain,i think.
Make sure before pulling the trigger-no cubs show up all of hte sudden, out of the blue.
My first impressions are that of a boar given its overall size and shape. No neck, big belly all smacks of a large boar.
I think I am now of the mindset that I’m gonna let that arrow fly given the opportunity. It appears to be a great bear ( fingers crossed on not too much ground shrinkage lol ) and I will be grateful to have it.
Good Luck, its a great looking Bear.
