My Season is done

Getting old i guess.

The fall down the ravine i took on Oct 01 has officially ended my 2021 season. Somehow the knee become infected and went septic. Now on IV antibiotics to be followed by surgery. Hopefully will be able to do some ice fishing when the time comes.

Good luck to all of you out there and please post your tales as i will be living vicariously. This will be the first time i have not filled at least one deer tag since 1982 and at least two tags every season since they started offering additionals. Going to have to start rationing my meat stocks to make it another full year. Fortunately last season was good to me with 4 deer and 3 bears between me and my boys so with a bit of planning we should make it without running out.

That is too bad..... I hope it heals up well with no setbacks. If we do well, you are more than welcome to some of our deer meat. Hope the surgery goes well. Go to suck though :(

Sorry to hear that but you will be back next year, I was in an accident 2 days before Deer season 15 years ago and I was out for the count. You will recover and next year back at it. But you still have some meat left.

Well that sucks.
Knees can cause a lot of pain and age does not help with fast healing hope it works out for you take the time to recover fully

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery, there's nothing fun about that situation.

Sorry to hear this. How old are your boys? Get them out there to fill those tags and look after the old man!

22 and 28. Problem is they are not around this season until Christmas. May be able to get them on some deer the last week of archery in 82a. My other option is 47 which doesn't work as it will close before they get home.

ah man. Hate to hear this. Hoping you have a speedy recovery. How quickly can then get you in for surgery and what's the expected recovery time?

Tough break at the beginning of deer season. Sorry to hear this man, too bad it wasn't just a gout flare up. Sounds pretty serious.

Thanks. We are between Priceville and Durham on the Saugeen. BIL and nephew and a friend are heading to camp for the rifle hunt but after that things are more flexible. Depending on how i am doing i will shoot a pm after that. I need one of those wheelchair accessible stands and a deer recovery team LOL.

And if you need some help (an extra gun) during the muzzleloader season up there, let me know, I am more than willing to take a day off to help fill your freezer.

That’s Terrible we all look forward to this time of year. Hope for quick recovery! I filled my tag last Friday on target buck. If you can get your but in a sxs and down one in rifle season I have the week off, nothing but time if you need some muscle. I’m just down the road.

Sorry to hear this Species, BUT….take comfort my friend in the success that you’ve had over the years ! Not many can boast of a record like that

Thanks for all the great replies everyone. Also a big shout out to those who have offered help - it is appreciated. Latest update:

- surgery was on the 21st and went well
- infection appears to be under control
- x-rays initially showed no bone damage but subsequent CT scan and MRI showed the tibia bone (large bone between knee and ankle) has a vertical split starting at the knee about 2/3s of the way down to the ankle
- vertical tibia fracture will apparently take 4 to 6 months to fully heal.

So hunting this fall is bust for sure but still optimistic about ice fishing by the end of January.

Man that's sad news for sure! Hope things heal well so you're good to go for spring bear.

Well body is telling you to slow down..,wishing you a speedy recovery.

There is lots of debate on bone repair and vitamins and nutrients and calcium and Omega 3 etc., make sure to follow the instructions for rehab and eat properly. It will help and especially don't over do it.
