2 Orange questions

So I hunt from a ground blind on private property for the controlled hunt. I usually put some orange tape on the hub rings on my blind on the outside just in case and sometimes throw a extra orange hat on top of the blind.

Now I know I have to wear orange hat and orange vest. Actually wear a orange face mask as well.

Question #1

do I need to keep them on when sitting inside my hub blind?

Its really not a big deal but I'm curious.

My guess would obviously be you have to be wearing it always. But if I were to take my blaze orange off in my tent you wouldn't be able to see my orange either way.


Question #2

Is there no requirement for hub blinds to have any orange in canada?


Now I've read and looked this up as well but its not covered as far as I know or not required in ontario as far as I could find. I'm pretty sure some states in the usa require you to have blaze orange on your hub blind during gun season.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You must wear hunter orange gear, even in a hub blind. With respect to your second question, there are presently no requirements to have hunter orange on your blind, in Ontario, although it is recommended for obvious reasons.

Rick is bang on.
Might not make sense all the time but the law is you need to keep your orange on, and blinds aren't covered in the regs. That is a personal decision, but not really much downside.

A while back they used to come with an orange flag hanging on the top point. I haven't seen that in the ones I bought last year so I added it. Doesn't affect the hunt and provides is a little more visibility to other hunters.

Just add some orange near the tope were its visual rom all 4 sides...good to go, better safe then sorry
Don't need to wear orange for xbow...yet a lot do on here for safety reasons

I once had a CO walk to my stand for the very reason to check if I was wearing orange head gear (hat or toque). Didnt bother asking for my license, just saw that I had a hat on and wished me good hunting.
As for the stand itself, I use a couple of old work T-shirts cut up and stapled them to the outside. 3 yrs ago while sitting inside, a fella shot 2 turkeys almost literally under me, with a .270 during the deer hunt. It was private property about 100 yards off the road. I saw the truck and reported it. Investigation by the CO resulted in the fella being completely let off with no charges as he was First nation. His excuse was he thought it was crown land and because the land wasn't posted, he walked. It's now posted heavily and I've got lots of hunter orange on the outside.

As far as putting orange on the outside I would make sure it’s not something that’s flapping in the wind. Not sure if you meant flagging tape. Good Luck

I once sat in a makeshift ground blind on the edge of a field that was a adjacent to a road. At one point, a couple of does came out and started feeding then a truck pulled over and 2 hunters got out. I’m not sure if they would have shot, but I didn’t waste anytime jumping out of my blind and making myself seen. Of course the deer took off and so did the road hunters. After thinking things over, I left too as I didn’t have any spare orange to hang out in the open.

Do you guys think they should have requirements in canada for blaze orange on your ground blind ?

I know guys in the states who bring extra vests and clip them onto the corners of their blinds.

Can't speak for Canada, but during a rifle season in Ontario, I think it should be? It's a fine line when advocating for more regulation of any kind but in keeping with the hunter orange garment requirement, I think it would make sense.

It seems weird that a guy up in a tree stand has to wear orange but another guy can hide in a camouflaged ground blind without a hint of orange visible.

I hunt public land, and I think all ground blinds should have orange marking. without it most times if not sunny out ... its not possible to see it. I would not walk in front of them if I seen it.
same with marking the tree you are on top of I think.

but again those markings could make ure location known to other hunters ...

Not all laws make complete sense. Seems we can think for ourselves and don’t need laws for everything anyway

Better safe than sorry ? I can layer myself right down to my Tee shirt and it's all blaze orange. If I was going to use a "ground blind" I would definitely tag it with some kind of blaze orange as there are too many jerks out there that will shoot first and ask questions later. Be safe , be seen !

I think you missed my point. No there isn't, but do we really need more laws to regulate every aspect of how we live?
If you want to mark your blind, have at it. No need for a law to tell you to.

A couple of high placed orange corners might save somebody and prevent somebody else with the lack of look at what you're shooting at from injuring/killing someone.

Except for varmint/predator on private property,I hunt public land. I wouldn't be without hunter orange at any time.

I think it would be best interest for both parties if this was a law though.

Guy in his blind doesn't want to be shot at.

Guys hunting dont want to shoot someone by mistake.

I would think hunters would be for this law. Espically if hunting crown land.

Well to each their own. Personally I believe we have way too many laws trying to control everything already.

Seems people don’t even try to think anymore they just let the government do it for them

Out west you don’t even need hunter orange but we need even more laws around it?

Many can’t even understand our current laws or even try to so I just don’t see adding more is going to accomplish anything

But we can respectfully disagree on this one
