Had a bit of a dry spell for the early season. Got my biggest doe at 90 yards, spined her and the arrow still passed through. She dropped like a sack of potatoes. "Didn' go twenny inches". Using a scorpyd aculeus 460 with 125 gr NAP spitfires.

(a shot which is 40yds further than a logical/ethical hunter would take) is not a problem….heck he even spined it at that distance, incredible accuracy.
I’ve always had respect for the poster as he is a good hunter it seems and super keen. I just don’t get the shot distances and what he’s trying to prove. Ya I’ve shot my compound and crossbow at 100yds but that’s into a foam deer or square block.
It’s been debated over and over again in a multitude of forums etc and no need to beat a dead horse. Taking long distance shots with archery equipment is unethical and is a disservice to the animals we hunt. 2 cent opinion of mine but luckily guys I hunt with and know all share similar one…
There's only one word that properly describes someone who feels the need to consistently boast about his questionable (to put it lightly) long range archery shots and throw in the odd Rut Daniels quote... a wiener.

Yeah I'm not going through this discussion again. Bottom line is %100 of the deer I hit are quartered within the same night and never go further than 150 yards. This one had a more painless death than just about any deer could get. I practice very regularily at distances with my bow and check the zero atleast 10x/year and I don't take any shots without accounting for all variables. I have zero concern over how impressive what I do is, I'm just highlighting the capabilities of the bow. If people want to ignore my facts and results then that's frankly just a waste of my time. Deer was taken legally and it died quick. End of story.Quote:

Hvala brate! I have no quarrels with people that disagree, everyone has different experiences and specific skill sets. My mentality is I'll do whatever I can to eliminate variables. Thanks. That was a miscalculation on my part she didn't move at all. I was aiming for a high lung shot that usually catches the artery under the spine as well. Either I hit lungs, spine, or clean miss so less chance of wounding. I tested my xbow again and the 90 yard reticle is actually 92 yards so it was about 2.5" inches high. This is why I like to test my xbow any low wind day I get. My reticles are as follows, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 75, 92, 108, 116.Quote:

my bow a Bowtech Solution SS and people are shooting at 70- yards all the time, so the bow is capable of doing that, am I, NO. I ve shot it at 50 yards and grouping was basically the diameter of a tennis ball. Would I shoot at a deer that far, probably not, too many things between me and the deer that can deflect an arrow, And Ive lost both a deer and a bear and simple dont want the feeling of doing it again. My comfort zone is out to 35 yards, 40 would be doable along a field but not in the bush, again too many obstacles that could be there.
I also have an Excalibur 400 TD and its very capable of 100 yards shots, again No way, I just could not do it for same as above.
I spined a deer 3 years ago at 15 yards, she ducked the string.
I would believe that you probably were not aiming for the spine and she did not duck for had she arrow would of gone right over here, so I would assume that you were a bit high, but regardless it was a deer harvested and she did not suffer, so Congrats.
If you are comfortable shooting those distances then go at it.
For me and me alone, if I wanted to shot deer consistently at 75-100 yards I would spend more time with a rifle or shot gun., I personally, enjoy the fact that with a bow I am much closer to the deer, as I enjoy the challenge of having deer 10-30 yards from me and not knowing they are there, that is equally as rewarding as it is to harvesting.
I will get at least one a year. so far this year I have passed on 9 opportunities, fawns with does, small bucs, .
I had the highlight of my 15 year hunting experience 4 weeks ago, had a deer in the pines at 120 yards, I bleated and she came to me, at 25 yards she caught me moving for my bow, she continued to walk in to 3 yards, yes 3 yards, she stood there and stomped and then proceeded to snort, she snorted 4 times and I swear snot landed on my boots, she turned and walked away did not run, she did not flag, she something wasn't right but was not sure what.
Point, that experience was better than any deer I have harvested, and I could of taken here many times between 50 and 20 yards, but wanted to see how far she would come before flagging and running.
That is the style of hunting I enjoy,
I do not think any one can be critical of your style, we all have our own ethics, skill, experience and style and what works for me wont for others and vica versa,

Nope. Was aiming for a high lung shot because of the shot angle and lower chance of wounding. I explained this just a few comments up. If she ducked the string then the arrow would have completely missed and not spined her.Quote:

Nice deer - and congrats, it's just twice as far as a shot I would chance.
But that's me and I am still looking at tag soup this year, although I have had deer within 60 yards this year, I just pass and wait.
Seems like a very powerful xbow and no one is saying that the equipment can't do the job at 90 yards - I am sure my xbow can kill deer at that range too.
Posting that you shot it at 90yards you must expect you'd get some flak about it. I feel the same about guys who shoot deer with their 30-06 at 400 yards. It can be done, and is done every year - it just shows lack of respect for the animal.

I think this is comparable to pass shooting waterfowl or turkey at 100 yard with shotgun ...
I dont take such shots, but have seen ppl do it all the time, and with the amount of practice, they call it a calculated risk ... successful at times, and miss other times...
I guess you can lower the risk to acceptable levels [each individual can take different level of risk] by practice. but its still a risky shot.

How long are we going to call this a lucky shot when I've been repeating my results season after season? How long are we going to call it unethical meanwhile all the deer I shoot are quickly dispatched and I have yet to wound a single deer in my 10 years of archery hunting? How long are we going to be outraged about what-if scenarios that clearly aren't happening? About the scorpyd remark, if I like a product and it performs well in a situation I'll be sure to point it out. It may not be the product you use, but I have the same right to appreciate it the same way others might appreciate their excalibur xbow without being accused of "being paid" like others have accused me of. And about the jealousy remark. I agree to a point. Most people honestly have the best intentions and they're coming from experience. But almost all criticism I experience off this forum is from rifle hunters that have little to no experience taking deer with archery. If I didn't fill a tag during rifle season and saw nothing but deer flicking their tails at me at 70 yards during archery season then who knows, I might be a bit bitter about some guy taking that shot.Quote:

Thanks. The camera setup I use is called a dragon touch vista or something like that off Amazon. It's cheap but comes with a remote and is customizeable. Not the best quality but it helps me get my camera shots without spending $700 on a go-pro.Quote:
