so i heard the wild boars have been caught in pickering and the ministry is going to euthanize them why not see if there is a butcher that would help and donate some time to help clean them up for the food shelters why waste the meat put it to a good use
I agree the meat should be put to good use but its not as simple as just donating them to food banks. Most food banks do not have the capacity to store the meat, they must ensure its safe to eat and most of their clients would not know what to do with the meat in any event or not even want it. If you have been to a food bank you will see that clients actually leave food behind that does not suit them or give it away to other clients.
At least donate to zoo’s. But they’ll bury them
Why would they do something smart with them, that does not make sense. They will pay a high priced vet thousands to euthanize them, then thousands to bury them, but a few 22 rounds and a sharp knife would take care of them quite quickly and at a minimal cost.
Good to hear that the ministry was successful with the capture and have to agree the meat should be put to use.
It's not as simple as all that. They would first have to be slaughtered, then inspected to be safe for human consumption etc. If they are tainted and not fit for human consumption the place where they were slaughtered would have to shut down and sanitized.... You're dammed if you do and dammed if you don't....
But it is nice to see that the MNR responded to it in a timely matter and the animals were trapped like they said they would do....
I’ve been saying this for years about nuisance geese in parks/golf course’s etc. Why not stock food banks…stupid

A neighbor tried to give garden produce like eggplant and zucchini to a food bank. The manager of the food bank said they'd tried to provide garden products (along with a recipe) and the patrons wouldn't take it. Basically if it isn't prepackaged or in a can they didn't want it. The Ontario government is reporting more than a dozen wild boars seen roaming in north Pickering have been trapped after a weeks-long search.
Morgan Kerekes, an Ontario Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry spokesperson, told CityNews on Tuesday that 11 wild pigs were captured by staff at the end of November while the last three boars were trapped on Monday.
She said in a statement crews over the past several weeks installed trail cameras and bait traps in areas where property owners reported seeing 14 boars.
However, Kerekes said the boars were “humanely euthanized and will be sent for necropsy and research.”
“Through this research, we will learn about the condition of wild pigs in Ontario, potential diseases and pathogens and outcomes will inform future management,” she wrote.
“The ministry considers many factors in determining the appropriate method for removing wild pigs from the natural environment, such as whether wild pigs could be a vector for disease, if they are breeding in the wild or are causing damage, and whether ownership can be determined.”
It was on Nov. 5 when ministry officials first reported receiving reports of the wild pigs, believed to be Eurasian wild boar, near the hamlets of Brougham and Claremont. It wasn’t clear where the boars came from. In the days that followed, the number of reports grew and so did the fears of reproduction.

How about find some volunteers to take them-sign a waiver -dispatch them under MNRF supervision(just so they are not let go alive)-and voila.
Money saved-meat used-happy recipients.
Yeh Dan I have relatives who worked for 40 years down at the Scott Mission in Toronto. They would get crates of fresh asparagus donated and could not give it to the clients, they did not know what to do with it. But the frozen fries from Mc Cain's were a bit hit.Quote:

Suck the meat will go to waste and the money for euthanasia. The upside it's not just a spay/neuter release program that cost alot more.
Safe to say I'm surprised. I was convinced the MNR wouldn't lift a finger. But this is definitely a huge success. 14 is a lot of pigs for Ontario. I hope this trend continues, but I'll both be happy and a bit sad if they succeed. Happy for farmer and the ecosystem but sad I'll have to go to the states for a pig hunt lol.
