Wow! Already? Not sure what temps have been out that way, but this region near the Soo, the ice is no where near safe enough to run a machine.
At 71 you'd think he'd know better...at that age it's not usually a 'Hold my Beer Watch This" scenario..but who knows. Maybe a dementia issue.
Such a preventable tragedy, that seems to happen every year !
What possesses people to do this, happens every year. Sad moment for the family, why people have to push their entitlement to check their personal luck is beyond comprehension.
Very sad...
The ice just formed on our lake and already there's tracks across it. Temps are supposed to go up to 10 c on Thursday. Idiots are everywhere it seems.
A sad tragedy that happens far to often.

The victim was a well known Temagami resident and contractor who built many houses and cottages on the lake. With his years of experience on the lake, it's hard to understand why he was out on the ice.
Every year it’s the same story. It’s sad and absolutely preventable.
2 years ago I was on callander bay opening day and sure enough a white pickup thought he could drive on the ice. Made it out 300 yards before it broke through.
Yes its hard to understand why?
I know it would be nice to go a season without hearing about this!
I haven't been out yet and didn't check ice on my small lake.
I know around Timmins last week some guys posted fishing on 14" of solid ice. But I also heard another big lake with a big river running trough it with only 4'' of ice (where Buddy was close to current) with sections of open water in the middle.
We just got over 30cm of snow on the weekend with prediction of warm days with rain and up to 9 degrees Celsius by Thursday.
Conditions can change rapidly on not so good condition as is! I wouldn't be playing around on the big lakes for a while.
Still have a few Lakers from last year to eat!
Be safe out there.
This man was a family friend and will be missed by all who knew him..
Condolences to his family
Local story is he was hauling roof shingles when he went through.
