Straight from Pfizer...the Comirnaty vaccine is basically useless against the Omiron variant.

So the fully vaccinated have no real protection from getting infected, so the conundrum for Dr Tam...back to lockdowns or just let it run it's courses thru the population. ??

How much of a government response should the people want for a variant that is less lethal than the common flu???
omicron is the break we have been waiting for and I'm puzzled by the desire to contain it. a) you can't and b) this is the natural course of a viral epidemic - the weakened strain that provides herd immunity.

If you want to know how honest the government is - wait for the published numbers of how many deaths are caused by the omicron strain that we are all supposed to be fearing.
My bet is that these numbers will never be published...

Covid contact tracing is a joke.
It's based on STD tracing methodology. But here's what's wrong with that. If you have an STD, ***most*** people would have a fairly short list of who they ***might*** have contracted it from. With coronavirus (or any airborne virus for that matter), this is impossible - your list would need to include any indoor encounters with anyone who was within 100-150 feet of you within the hour before you were there.

Omicron if you look at South Africa's covid spike that started around November 18 the infection rate is very high but the deaths didn't jump at all. So far we are reporting 11 percent of cases are omicron here .

It very well could be a blessing this new variant. Hearing rumors that it could of formed and evolved in a weakened immune system. Like the untreated patients with HIV. That was the guardian who posted the possibility.

I've seen so much back and forth discussions in the last few days. Everyone is in a panic really what is a third shot going to do ? Evidence shows its getting past the boosters I posted that the other day. Full outbreaks with fully vaccinated and boosters.

What we are seeing is a salesman at work.
And if the shots are not going to be effective from the Vaccinations then it's a perfect the time to stop jabbing the kids. That is why they wanted to give it to the children is it not to slow the spread?

With omicron we should let it take it's course and scape the mandates.

Per capita the new cases, hospitalizations and ICU admissions are many times higher among the unvaccinated than those who've had the shots. The disparity is even more pronounced asvthe unvaccinated are limited in their public activities. The chart below shows the difference.

The fact remains that despite the restrictions upon them the unvaccinated are per capita becoming infected more often, being hospitalized and admitted to ICUs at a far greater rate than the vaccinated.

But you miss the point there can be lots of unvaccinated that have little risk of being hospitalized. Infact almost 20 percent of Canadians. Little risk of severe outcomes and hospitalizations. That is our adolescent population
So almost 20 percent of the population can be totally unvaccinated with with very little stress on the health care. . Reports are also coming out that say Zero of this part of the population healthy children died of covid. Zero so again blame it on the unvaccinated so they can take part of a society experiment.

I know the average age they leaked it out a while back it was still 60 blaming it on the unvaccinated in one hospital.

Age is big factor with this virus .

So,I just watched a "report" on CTVnewsnet which stated that the medical reports from South Africa that the Omicron variant is appearing to be far less dangerous than Delta,but,the contagion rate is much higher comparable to the common cold. I suppose that's good news. Another report from BBCWorld said that the efficacy rate of Pfizer was less than 20%,but,for people who had both Astrazeneca and Moderna as a first course had an efficacy right of 83% and likely won't need a booster.

For a two shot full vaccination now at 22.5% effectiveness in under a year, sure questions Phyzer's science and credibility...

Sure there are anti-vaxx criminals forging documents although that is hardly an argument against having the restrictions and with the shift to QR codes only it will be much tougher for them. I've been in many establishments and attended various sporting events since the mandate was put in place and they've all checked both the QR code and my ID. I've always been puzzled by the science behind covid not spreading in the large chain stores, yet being a threat to life in small stores, shops and restaurants.

Ontario needs to address that mild omicron is a myth.

I think that Health Canada is seeing what the rest of the world is going to do, treat this virus like a seasonal cold/flu...with voluntary vaccinations during peak periods (fall/winter) . That will mean they will lose their grip on all these mandated restrictions and lose the power that the Health Emergency Measure act provided them.

The Omicron will be the end of the 'emergency' status....it's not generating a safety concern to the public or overwhelming of hospitals in countries where it has spread farther and there is now real data, it's no longer anecdotal.

Any restaurant or bar owner who is flouting the regulations is putting their liquor license at risk. A few have lost licenses already. Only a complete fool who lost business during the lockdowns would risk losing additional business by not following the law.

Sadly the only thing this shows is a governments desperate attempt to control, divide, deny basic human rights and freedoms.

Almost a pile up on the road at the jobsite entrance from cement trucks and gravel haulers lined up to get in at 730am.

The poor gate guy checking passports is getting screamed at from 50 different angles while cars are just driving on past because they can't wait anymore and are going to be late for work.

So the site contractor puts out a notice asking trades to show up earlier to avoid lines and not to bypass. Lol not one trade followed that deal so work carries on as such. What a joke.

Yea I saw that report from SA too. People had mild symptoms or were asymptomatic and symptoms were gone in 4-5 days, so in effect not even a bad cold at all. No need for a vaccine for it, immune system handles that with ease.

That to me is the saddest thing about the pandemic. Not the individual deaths, but rather the death of a country.

We've went from "we're all in this together" to people snitching on neighbors and businesses. People mistreating other people or referring to the in denigrating terms because they see the science differently or don't follow the continually contradictory government spin. Heavy handed governments and government employees enforcing questionable (i.e. NOT backed by science) initiatives. I'm not a fan of police in general, but I do applaud the OPP for standing up against this and refusing to enforce travel restrictions. No politician should have ever proposed that - not in a free country.

We have a school in york region 1 Case and 6 grades out of class . Grade 1 to 6 was to stay home this week.

Omicron already running out of steam they say in South Africa.

Their death rate has also changed big time. They say it was reported that 1 in 33 or they had a 3 percent death rate from Delta . Now they say omicron has about 0.5 rate and says their death is about 1 in 200
