Daughter's First Deer

So i have mostly been living vicariously this season due to a broken leg. With my kids home for Xmas/New Year's i managed to get my son on a deer earlier this week at our camp. That basically filled the quota for camp deer so my daughter got to hunt a friend's farm. Gave her a quick lesson on how to use the climber and got her set up on a funnel that has historically been very good.

I headed up to the barn to read a book while she hunted but at 430 she texted me "deer down." This was only her second hunt ever and turns out it was a good one. Went back to meet her and the deer left a blood trail a blind man could follow and dropped in sight about 50 yards away.

Nice doe that we had dressed, loaded and hung at home by 530 pm. Home for dinner always makes the wife happy.

Yeah that 380 has taken a ton of animals. Actually lost track but 7 big game critters in the last 2 years alone.

Way to go. Great way to round off the year.

Post Mortem when field dressing showed double lung and a nicked liver. Heart was untouched.

Thanks. Welcome to the board, i see this is your first post. Spent a memorable week in Texas 6 or 7 years ago during spring break with my youngest son hunting hogs and black buck. We had a blast. Remember crossing the border back into Canada and the customs guy asking "Anything to declare" and me replying well we have 4 rifles, 2 bows, 150 rounds of ammo and 4 hogs and a black buck on ice in the box of the truck. He replied "let me make a call" 30 seconds later he was off the phone and as our paper work and permits were in order said "have a nice day you are good to go."
