I got a 1912 that hasn't been out of the safe in decades except to check, clean and put back, selling it probably would be less than what I spent on groceries today, but it sure as hell ain't for sale!

No "Heritage" items for me as I never had a Grandfather in my life and my father wasn't into hunting. I guess I am the patriarch as only my youngest brother out of my other siblings is involved with guns at all. My son is an infrequent hunter, mostly due to time constraints on trying to carve out a living. I bought a gun on my youngest Grandsons (from my son & his wife) day of birth and it will be passed to him at the appropriate time (he's a definite hunter-to-be, currently 8 years old).
I have 2 of my great grandfathers guns. I also have a mounted 8 point and an un used deer tag from 1918. Also have a number of pictures from some of his hunting pics.
I have grandpa's Winchester model 54 nickel steel 30gov't06. I haven't fired a shot out of it yet but it's on the list with a few other safe queens.
Nope. I don't get sentimentally attached to guns. If I don't have a use for it out it goes.
My grandfather's gun was a 1920 Model 1894 carbine he inherited when his younger brother died in 1932. Before he died, he gave it to my younger brother, who used it to shoot many deer over the next 30 years. My brother, now pushing 60, is planning to give it to one of his grandsons when they're old enough.
My Dad's gun was a Winchester Model 07 in, of course, .351 Winchester Self-Loading. I used it to shoot my first deer 40-odd years ago. Before he died, he gave the rifle to my nephew, along with some Holy Grail items: 3 50-round boxes of ammo and a spare magazine. I later happened upon 3 more boxes of ammo, which I gave to my nephew, along with a set of dies. The "kid" is in his late 30's and LOVES guns and hunting. He's a good enough moose hunter that Jim Shockey offered him a guiding job.
I gave him a couple older guns he was interested in; the first gun I owned, a Model 5 Savage .22 rimfire, and a Winchester 62A pump .22, and I threw in a Savage 99R in my beloved .250-3000. He'll end up with my old A-Bolt when I'm done with it; he always liked that rifle.
I haven't yet decided, now that I'm grampa-aged, but with no kids, what I will do with my firearms. I'm not shooting that much these days, and plan to sell a few and just keep a handful; a couple bolts, a couple levers, a shotgun and a rimfire. When I'm done shooting, I'll just ask those young fellas if they want them.

Both grandpas guns, my one grandpas only buck from 1950-52 and his mounted walleye from 1988.
I had a relative that was in the Royal Marines, he kept a 'gun room' that he showed me once of items collected when he served. I told him that if his house caught on fire the whole neighborhood would blow up. After his passing his wife had to call the military to come take it all back. From that collection I got a Lee Enfield that had been re chambered into a 22 (due to UK rules) but that got given back to another relative upon request. He taught me how to shoot, and we did some pheasant hunting over the years, and that was better than any gun.
grandfather - 12 ga SxS hammer sidelock (not shootable - sits over the fireplace)
father-in-law - Lee enfield No.1 Mk III (museum quality - never shot- walnut stock - was found after WWII - marked "for ceremonial purposes only")
father-in-law - Lee Enfield No. 5 (jungle carbine)
father - Savage 99 (300 Savage).
I have hunted with the Savage 99 and killed a deer & a moose with it. My dad shot 5 moose with it. The 300 Savage is a great cartridge!
Not a Grandfathers gun , more like a Father-in -law gun old Cooey .22 bolt repeater. Needed a lot of cleaning/refinishing but shoots good ! I have since added to my collection so at least my grandkids will be well armed for whatever game they pursue and that includes ammo.
Have a couple that were my grandfathers, an American Gun Co. 12ga SXS with hammers and double triggers and a .22 cooey repeater that was in real bad shape with a cracked stock and bent trigger guard. I put a new stock on it and had it reblued. Then a few years later sent it to my uncle in B.C. as he wanted his grandchildren to learn to shoot with it.
I have one, my grandfathers 20g Cooey. Hes still alive and well, in his 80s. Shot his buck last year on opening day.
We were having dinner a few years ago and he suggested to me I take the Cooey home "to look after it for him". Of course I eagerly accepted. That gun was one of the defining guns of my childhood hunting experience. It was always at the camp and I grabbed it many a morning for a quick walk for birds. Now its mine, and it always goes to the camp with me, just like it did with him.

Nothing from grandad I was too far down the list but got a 93 winchester pump 12 guage from my great uncle that dates back to the glory days of point pelee before it was a provincial park. Shot some ducks with it before I found out about the 2 5/8 chamber, it has sat in the cabinet for the last 40 years and will belong to one of my grandsons eventually.
