The misinformation war is real

Look I’m no expert. But reading this article makes more sense than some of the opposing theories I’ve read on here. We’re going to need to come up with a system that all people can trust to some certain degree or surely we will divide. The distrust is real. The misinformation is real. I’m not calling out anyone or looking to blame people. It’s easy to get caught up in things when they make sense to you. What I do think we need is more transparency and less rhetoric. We also need to do something about social media platforms. I’m not saying get rid of free speech, but some stuff needs a disclaimer. This world is full of information. The internet serves as a great database for information. Unfortunately it’s also used for misinformation for various purposes. None of these purposes serve to enhance our society.

As with most things, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. According to the pro-vaxxers, getting the jab (or two, or three) is the only way to survive this pandemic and is for the greater good of society. To the staunchly opposed, vaccines lead to a multitude of ailments, and/or infringes on an individual's rights. The MSM supports the former and alternate sources support the latter. All anyone can do is to try and get a balance of both and make their own decision, and not let the media make it for them.

I think it’s not only a covid issue. I think this will spread its way through everyday life and it will create further divide amongst us through various future issues.

Unfortunately, it's in unavoidable.
Both sides of each argument will always have an extreme spectrum and will say outrageous things that twist or make up facts to their own advantage.

It falls to the listener to verify / choose whether to trust the info or not and choose their sources.
And yet another challenge is that audience does not have time to diligently verify everything they hear..
Its a known paradox of our era.

The only potential solution is oneself basic education in variety of disciplines, so that at least the obvious bs can be caught right away.

Gov establishment and MSM has historically has shot itself in foot and lost/keeps loosing trust from more and more folks by lack of transparency, being caught by twisting/hiding verifiable facts/stats or straight up lies..

The why Rogan podcast is so popular as he invites guests and allows long, in-depth discussions about variety of topics to allow audience to get both sides of story.

Society is to the point with main stream media that everything they report on is regarded with great skepticism. There seems to be a cratering of media credibility. If that drives people to delve further into important matter that have personal consequences using several different sources of data to enable them to arrive at a reasonable conclusion,that's a very good thing.

Alot of the information is correct from the so called conspiracy side either the far left or the far right. But they want you to believe the far is right is crazy like the protesters are considered far right by our media. Again with the labeling from the left.

The left isn't any better just better funded.

What must be taking into consideration are the facts not their opinions . Like Alex Jones he is very opinionated throws out alot of stuff some of it sounds really crazy but the facts are correct just not played much by the mainstream. He would be no different then Rogan has special guest that the mainstream won't have on.

I tried to debunk him but from what I found 95 percent is legit with his news just with a different opinion. But there is no evidence of alot of his rambling rants lol.

We don't have to believe in his wild crazy rants I'm not a far right guy but I want the truth . I'm coming to realization that I'm more of a freedom guy I fight gun rights yet I don't own a gun lol. I fight for useless bans that are not justified lol.

Look at rumble government officials started using it because someone says it's mis information or misleading information on YouTube. These people are testifying in the government house are being censored on certain platforms. Senate officials are being censored let me guess it must be a medical licensed expert doing the censoring not lol.



Like said you can't believe everything you hear but most can put 2 and 2 together with the evidence that is brought forward.

Here is one prove to me the liberals are not on board with WEF? And what does that really mean? The evidence is there the proof is in the pudden and the vax pass was praised for being created by one of their own masterminds.

When you can't ask questions really what's left ? Just listen just obey and be obedient?

CBC even pointed out that Trudeau would come out, make claims and comments, CBC would spread it and late in the day some "nameless bureaucrat" would announce corrections, CBC actually call Justlied Trudeau a source of misinformation one of the few times I watched CBC, I was shocked. Either it happened more than once or I had real good timing but many of the "facts" on vaccines, masks etc. keep changing. A person need so question when the gov't says not to and the PM is notorious for lying.

The CDC just came out with new info on cloth masks effectiveness, studies on the Omicron variant, new variants, so much often from reputable sources (or seeming so), .... it wasn't that long ago that the vaccine would "stop" the virus... yet PM silly socks just tested positive. Decisions made on politics and lies are why we are where we are right now!

A couple of the Rogan shows that were called problems were with medical experts like one of the guys that helped create the mRNA vaccines... but he didn't speak "correctly" according to censors and political types... no idea if he did but time will tell and there will be casualties that shouldn't have been because some unquestioningly believed.

I think over stimulation or an over abundance of information might be an issue too. We know that we need to unplug, but do we? It’s too much. Then we are creatures of habit with the ability to think and over think everything. But in the end we gravitate to information that fits our personal belief system. We create our own “matrix”, personalized based on our experiences. Once inside the “matrix” we find it hard to be impartial.

It's pretty easy to believe misinformation when you have a governing power that lies through its teeth at every turn.

I'm waiting for the next round of real information to come out regarding the vaccinated. Call it a gut feeling, but the way the vaccine is forced down your throat even after 80% of people are jabbed feels off. The last two months were at 80%, yet every group of people you meet has a near 50/50 split. Me ponders the idea of them telling the public, "Everyone is doing it." Just to create a peer pressure scenario while trapped in your home.

I agree it is a slippery slope and it might not have the desired affect. But. We are living in a less educated world. I know that sounds bizarre but consider the curriculum and your education versus your parents and now versus your kids. Maybe it’s me, but the education system is getting more diluted by the generation. I’m not just talking about math, English or science. I mean problem solving techniques and research techniques. This has eroded simple logic and common sense. There are too many dreamers out there that are looking at blurring the line between fantasy and reality. Some things can seem so believable even when they are untrue. Because of this, social media weaponizes misinformation. It spreads like wildfire, it festers. I think it’s a danger to society.

Watching msm during the Ottawa demonstrations really was something. The press is protected under the charter, but still the majority of msm had to camouflage themselves to blend in. They removed all company logos to not attract attention, but their equipment gave them away. The amount of aggression and intimidation they faced by the angry mob was mind blowing. These journalists were just broadcasting the live situation unfolding and were repeatedly attacked. Heck, the protesters even turned on some YouTube live streamers accusing them of being “FED’s” working for the establishment. The amount of paranoia and lack of trust was incredible. The nmsm is doing a great job at creating a divide in our society. Makes you wonder where it’s all going.

The problem is not simply left of centre. It’s all across the board. Those following rebel and rumble and other medias of that direction, are just as affected. For example, there is a UN plane at the north bay airport (I can’t confirm, but saw a video on YouTube). A certain group of people are already making assumptions that the police enforcing the Ottawa demonstration are not from Canada. Conspiracies are born out of rumours, and here we have one in the making. Like you said, “ we have to have faith that not everyone is blind and stupid and eventually,will see right through it”

As for youtue they even blocked government links so all was banned I gave up posting alot there because half the time you are censored even with the truth from official government sites. So what's the point in debating with others when your post is instantly deleted. The solution was quite simple, make it known if you show up unvaccinated to medical centers for to be treated for symptoms COVID, you will be added to the list of non-urgent surgeries, and send them home. Those who can provide viable justification for not being vaccinated will get admitted and treated. That way, the unvaccinated have their freedom of choice, and hopefully will not come in contact with a virulent case of the virus which they have reservations about existing. That should allow for a person's freedom of choice to face natural consequence as opposed to government mandates. That may even speed up society's movement towards herd immunity.

Many did-and they saw thru the TRUE great Propaganda from the east-and the somewhat great Propaganda from the West .

People would risk their lives and climb Fire towers for better radio reception(Communist did everything they could, to suppress radio emissions from the West).

If we want to live in a Plural world-every opinion matters!

And here we have the conundrum. The big questions of who decides what is best. There is no simple answer. You can’t make everyone happy. On one hand I think that the majority of opinion holds weight, but at the cost of the minority. On the other hand if we try to please the minority, there will be a larger group affected. Then there’s always the do nothing and let things happen organically approach.

A lot of responsibility falls upon the population and which direction it leans. I think some people have trouble being impartial. I think critical thinking is being overrun by emotional reactions. Angry people tend to be irrational.

Lately I’ve seen the msm more vilified than ever in the past. Why is that? Are they not all independent journalists just reporting the stories happening? Is it a case of wrong information being presented or a case of not agreeing with the information? This goes equally for right leaning media. They share information in contrast to the msm. So then who is presenting a clearer more accurate reality?

That's imo that because MSM has been uncontrollably blocking opposing views.
Yes those might be independent journalists, but the editors decide who's material get aired and who's get blocked. So the end result is those independents start only providing the material/views that they will get paid for. Other independents just leave the system
Same goes the overall organization, they are loosing viewership by day, so they need to create more provocative stories or air govt supporting material get the monetary grands from public money. The question is - if CBC is public entity supported by public money - why only 1 side of views being presented? Right wing media MUST be included in the service and let the viewers decide what believe or not.. but the propaganda machine is in full force.

This whole situation ends up with media bubbles, where labels are attached to people just trying to figure out what is actually going on..

If you referring to vaxx mandates, then who decides that one minority is better then the other?
We are supporting bunch of other minorities with public funds.. whereas nonvaxx "minority" has been stripped from their ability to provide for themselves and their families.. Sounds like a fascism to me.
"Do nothing" - the damage has already been done, so do nothing is not an option for those has been affected.

He wants to know who has their foot in the door at the WEF
With their agenda and opportunities should the public not be aware . This isn't the first time they have done this while asking other questions.

It's a reasonable question it would be nice to know the plans as well. . Can we ask questions the people want to know .

That to me is the problem. I find the question so ridiculous as not to warrant a response. It’s built out of fantasy. It’s accusatory. It’s fundamentally opposed to the democratic belief of freedom of expression.

Maybe I’m off on this one, but it sounds to me like a witch hunt, and either answering or not would not satisfy the one posing the question.

Back to my statement of a witch hunt. It is a foolish question to question our democracy. I would expect the same silent routine from any other party. The fishing done by this mp turned up nothing. If the news was worthy of further examination the other party members would be all over this, but I think most err on the side of caution so as not to look foolish. Hence the reason why the mp asked on behalf of a constituent and not on their own.

Cdc is now admitting they haven't released data from a year ago so the public doesn't take it the the wrong way. Even last month they admitted that 75%of a the deaths had at least 4 comorbidities. If they released all the info it would likely go against the narrative as they believe it would cause vaccine hesitancy . So they just don't give us all the facts.

So who misleading the public?

Delta last year breakthrough infections covered up and stopped tracking why is that? Is that because a third of the vaccinated had the same viral load as unvaccinated? Yeah but that's al mis information.

Even you have said most of the conspiracy theories have come true. Most are compiled on facts that main stream won't report tossed up as mis information while our government has given us so many misleading statistics. It's all about manipulating the numbers to their favorite. Who knows why . Maybe because it had a 1 % death rate. Mainly the elderly and some reaching the end of their time. We needed to protect them not everyone with a faulty vaccine

It has always been from the starting to get everyone vaccinated and not looking into to who could actually benefits from the vaccines. We know who benefits from them

I get it, a reasonable post and comment..but you lost me at System...

You see in order for the System to work - it requires control and authority over you...that is not to say we dont need some government, there is always a need for some government oversight, laws, courts.

But the real need for all Canadians is to understand the power they had for last 4 weeks and seek out parties who are trying to reduce that power and return it to the individual. When did it become right to lockdown your own citizens for the failure of the last 45 yrs of the healthcare system and the politicians in charge who created the conditions for the lockdowns...and then instituted draconian measures against the people to save face and political vote ability trying to cover up the very mess they are responsible for creating.

The lockdowns and draconian measures were exactly to cover up their failure to improve and build capacity in the front line staff, ICU beds, more doctors, more nurses.. It was these failures that created the need..by design. This has never been about health outcomes, doing the right thing and paying the political cost to do so.

I will do that - I will fix the system over 5 years of a majority mandate, because that is how long it will take and longer, but we have to rapidly build capacity to front line to avoid the lockdowns again....Ford has had that time...and what has he done?

Medical Specialist - 5 yrs (xray - repository)

And it wont cost a single penny more to current budget of 72 Billion, as a matter of fact - we figure we can save 8 Billion a year in healthcare with our plan...and put that to debt.

Masks do work!!!!! Like anything it comes down to human error. Is the person wearing it properly, is it the right mask, etc. unless I’ve missed something, doctors and surgeons wear masks to prevent virus/germ spread.

The main difference is - in my example, the business will get sued, whereas in your case - nothing will happen legally.

Surgical masks are only to prevent spit and mucous from contaminating sterile surfaces and open wounds the only way to stop transmission of viruses in a closed environment is through negative ventilation. Maybe I missed something please post a link that shows masks work against viral spread.

Masks worked for us when my youngest daughter brought covid home from a friends house. She mostly isolated in her room, but when she had to be around us, she and we wore masks and we never caught it and my wife has asthma as well.

The mask debate just cracks me up.
No filters are 100%. But all filters work to some level depending on how fine they are

The pro group seems to think they will solve all the world’s problems

The anti group continues to claim they do absolutely nothing

Again the reality is they are somewhere in the middle and there are 1000’s of variables that change their effectiveness

I never agreed with the mandate for them but also think they can help and should be wore by those at risk in some situations

But to write them off as absolutely useless is as niave as thinking they are perfect

I believe that almost every person knows that a mask will stop something, it is a membrane that is porous and will stop most particles that are bigger then the holes/perforations in the mask. We use filters in our furnace and they stop the majority of dust from recirculating in the home, but not small things like bacteria or virus unless a HEPA style.
I equate these mask mandates to someone farting in a snowmobile suit or coveralls with longjohns underneath. You will still crop dust yourself and those around you, and as far as I know a fecal molecule or fart is a lot bigger then a virus molecule. So how well do you think that mask will do stopping the virus when it doesn't stop **** from going up your nose????

If restaurants choose to do so and you are in full support of such. Should they choose restrict access to other minorities, and those minorities take their money elsewhere without causing any fuss?

The hypocrisy of choosing one minority over the other seems to quite engrained in your reasoning

Ontario law does not permit discrimination based on race. It does at present permit restaurants to continue asking for proof of immunization. Requiring a mask is little different than restaurants setting a specific dress standard. Patrons can make their own choices.

Mask retirements - equivalent of dress code and no shoes policy. That I am ok with.. It does not have any permanent effect on anyone

Are there actually restaurants or other places that are requiring proof of immunization? I've been to half a dozen restaurants since the restriction was lifted and not one was asked. Should it happen I'll politely decline, wish them a pleasant good evening and go elsewhere.

These are not quite comparable. Refusing to serve an intoxicated person is a liquor licensing requirement and smoking is similarly regulated. There is no longer a legal requirement for restaurants to require proof of immunization from their customers.

It's not that insane when you consider the psychology IMO. It's simply a way for people to show they are not ready to admit everything they believed was in fact a lie. They need to feel like they are gaining some sort of advantage over the peasants.

Masks can continue to be voluntary. And as I've said further back in the thread, any establishment that still requires proof of vaccine, despite the fact that it offers literally zero protection for patrons, has succumbed to irrationality and spitefulness.
