In the past few months I've seen almost all the pheasants I've seen in my whole life. First time I saw a male Pheasant was in passing 100 yards in a field about 11 years ago. In the past few months I've seen three, including two today. Are they releasing more of them? Or are they just having a higher survival rate?
I'd say released birds, gosfield and lakeshore sportsman clubs are realeasing at intervals now that the season is longer instead of all at once when it was a 4 day season
My beagle put a male pheasant this past November in a corn field. Caught me totally off guard.
Wasn’t the first one I saw in that area! About 10 years ago we jumped a male pheasant out of cattails hunting for jacks!
I seen a pair about four years ago hoping it was a start of something havnt seen one since
I see a few when we have warm winters, they don't dig in the snow for survival. Pheasant is a good eating bird.
I came to the realization a long time ago that if I want consistent pheasant contacts for my dogs I have to put 'em out myself.
Fairly easy these days as up to 10 on private land no permit required. Public lands a simple application from the MNR to release can be obtained on crown straight forward on county forest require permission from forester.
where would someone buy pheasants to release? I also read a thread earlier on someone wanting to release grouse-is there a place you can buy these game birds? game farm I assume?Quote:

I've flushed a couple but I'm positive they're escaped pets. Lots of people keep pheasants. I had em for some time but they're a whole different level of dumb. Not a bird I enjoyed keeping.

Stepped a little to close and it flew out from under the pine and up infront of me. Very scary at 4am in the pitch dark LOL
