Does anyone here use those with any level of success?
Did you learn to mimic the sound or bought a premade call? Any recommendations for manufacturers?
Thank you in advance

I’ve hunted moose forever and am not aware of anyone trying a calf in distress call. I’m not saying that it won’t work, but it might draw in wolves or bears.
It works as it draws young cows with no claves but like you said Sam it also draws in wolves, bears and lynx
This is interesting topic-how You want to use it?
Purposely calling cow, which is not responding ,or the cow is hiding-or blind calling?
I read somewhere that it could call in a cow,
so thinking that could be used as a potential for cow/calf hunting, as calves will follow a cow anywhere
Guess that would classify as blind calling. It would make sense to have a wolf/bear tag handy just in case any predators come in.

Thanx Newbie-makes sense.
Only thing i may add-these types of call are short range calls...............2-300 m MAX.Under good weather condition, and good wind.
Let us know how it works out.
GBK if you ever heard a calf who's mother was shot and the calf is wandering you can hear them ball for miles.
It sounds like a human baby crying and makes the hair on your neck stand on edge.
In our group we have a couple of guys who can imitate calf in distress calls and we have shot 3 cows to date
Thanx Articcat,interesting
Yes I’ve done it. Called in a cow and calf.

Steve Rinella (Netflix MeatEater) used this tactic on deer, it worked. I will be trying it this year.
I watched a YouTube video years back of a hunter using a fawn distress call, he had a few Does running right to him
