Walkers ear muff hunting question.

Hello all,

I know alot of you guys have the walker muffs I decided to get a pair they were on sale at basspro and I said why not. They worked nice when I went to the range didnt have a issue hearing what anyone was saying and the shots were muffled pretty well.

My main question is do you guys wear them while hunting as well? Deer hunting turkey hunting ? I'm very curious about this and if it dulls down your hearing at all while hunting or any other issues that anyone has noticed? Thanks for the responses in advance !

I have a pair and I wear them most of the time I am deer hunting. They actually enhance your hearing if you crank them up, so you hear approaching deer earlier. They also keep the ears warm when cold. And probably most important, they protect your hearing when and if you shoot.

For some stupid reason, they are not stereo (at least my pair isn't) so they are problematic if you need to hear directionally like when grouse hunting. Otherwise, awesome for ducks, or stand/blind hunting for deer & bear. I made adapters with a microphone for mine and my wife's so if we are hunting different locations at a pond, we can connect them to our GMRS radios so we can stay in touch. You hear the audio in the Walker's muffs.

P.S. I like using them, but as they are not the best quality hearing protection equipment - what do you want for about $100 or less- they do have issues. The issues using them for me are: I find the constant white noise and other enhanced noises take away the calmness we all enjoy when sitting on a quiet watch. I also find they are too noisy to use on windy days. Another annoyance at least for me is that they give off a lot of static if you get your cell phone close to them. Mine says they are directional (left and right channels) but I have not found a big difference with an older pair I have that were not. Hope this helps

My brother uses them while hunting, says he can hear a lot better. I haven't tried them while hunting yet, maybe some day. As said, don't bother when its windy or rainy, will drive you nuts.

Fair enough, thanks for the input guys! I'll be bringing them along this year for sure and try them out while deer hunting in the bush. I think mine are left and right channels if I'm not mistaken.

A problem someone else mentioned is the rain and wind. Wind isn't that big of a deal ill be in the bush so its not that bad in there. I can see the rain being annoying. I wasn't even wearing them last year and the rain was driving me nuts last year lol.

Are they water proof? I sure hope so LOL

HI Bowjob I also use the walker game ears but I have the more expensive ones and they eliminate the white back ground noise and they are directional for better hearing control

i have the Walker's Razor Slim Quad. They are great on the range, never shoot without them. I have tried them in the bush hunting but picks up to much noise from the distant roads and train, which is aways away. Any wind it becomes too noisy at least for me. I do not think they are water proof.

Interesting. Where i hunt in the bush the road is a little ways away, and there's barley any traffic as well. I picked up the walkers razor sport XT. Going to do some more testing with them maybe. I'll be bringing them this year for sure and if they aren't to my liking ill be using them when target shooting. Still a good buy for 60 bucks and change imo

Some swear by this device for moose hunting.
The grunt of a bull moose can be heard from great distances -would be missed by relaying on ears- so they say.

Agree with this exactly. I will wear them for awhile hunting but the white noise gets bothersome

I've tried the lower-end Walker Game Ears and found the performance and sound quality lacking. I use a set of Peltor/3M ComTac for hunting and clay target shooting. They aren't cheap but the sound is excellent. They are waterproof and I've used them in all types of weather.
