I will be going up for black powder hunt on november 7 and looks like a few days of rain for now anyway. Talking to a friend who said he cuts off the end of latex gloves and puts one on his barrel so no rain gets in, he said no issues shooting and doesn't affect accuracy. I know everyone was taught no obstruction of the barrel but it did get me thinking. Anybody do this or anything similar? Thanks

Piece of tape. Finger off a nitrile glove. A latex prophylactic ( new, not used)...
All work fine and have zero effect on bullet trajectory.

I use a small finger condom from the drug store. They are used to cover a injured finger. They come in a box of 50.

I also use the finger cut from a latex glove. I hunt in the rain, snow whatever - no problems in 20 years. I use black tape for my rifles to prevent dirt/snow getting in, but I don't think it is as waterproof as the glove - partly because my ML has a fluted barrel. BTW, Terry Weiland and probably others have tested rifles with tape on extensively, no affect on accuracy, as the gas ahead of the bullet blows off the tape. There are slow motion videos of it.
Traditions makes "muzzle loader rain gear" that fit nicely over the end of the barrel and have never given me any issues.

Years ago I used to hunt with some guys in the WMU 80 controlled hunt down by a place called Alma. The forecast for the hunt week was miserable - solid rain. The one guy had a bunch of those tiny rubber finger cotts that look like micro penis condoms and I used one on the first day to keep my Omega dry. That night I stopped in at Shoppers Drug and bought a pack of Durex Silk condoms, and to be a smartass I bought the biggest ones they had. These rigs would be used by a freak of nature, aka, the poor kid who couldn't play sports with the other boys back in grade nine. Unrolled, they were an honest 11 inches long and as big around as a piece of kolbassa. I used the little finger cott in the morning, then rolled one of the big boys onto the barrel for the evening sit. My buddies did a double take when they saw the rubber and just shook their heads and called me an idiot. We were hunting a private farm and the three of us walked up the driveway from our parked trucks and as we rounded the garage on the landowner's house, we ran into the farmer's wife and her daughter. I'd put the daughter at maybe 17 or 18 We stopped to chat and be social, and the old girl asked us if we'd seen anything yet. As the mother was talking we saw the daughter look at the rubber on my barrel, and her eyes went the size of a dinner plate, and she blurted out "oh ...my...god!!" It was a look of terror. The mother and the daughter then both stared at the rubber on my barrel, then I swear to god they both wrenched their necks and immediately fixated on my crotch. It took everything I had to not lose it laughing. I thought I was going to pass out. We said goodbye and barely made it twenty yards into the bush before we collapsed crying. My one buddy was gagging and coughing he was laughing so hard. I thought we were going to have to call 911 and get him an ambulance!Quote:
