GIRSAN MC312 and Rimington 870 express

Ahoyyy lads.

Please I need help with comparisons between Girsan mc312 and Rimington 870 express.

I had the Rimington pump for a very long time and my shots were accurate as hell, fit me perfect fast to aim and had clean shots, but with the Girsan I am very off with my shots.

I looked up size differences and apparently the Rimington is one inch longer than the Girsan, but would just one inch make that much of a difference? The hight of the Girsan stock is good I just feel like the stock is a shorter than Rimington.

Does anybody here know then difference between them? I could use some knowledge because I am going nuts!! And if it actually came down to the stock, is there a way I can make the Girsan stock a bit longer ?

Fit of a shotgun is the most important feature there it is for accurate shooting.
However there is a theory that shorter stock can be shot better then longer stock-if stock is not fitting properly in the first place.

Now-if You want to make the stock longer-install,or get installed a thicker recoil pad.Easy.

That is an interesting theory, I wonder what is it then, maybe I lost my touch since its been 6sh years I haven't been out shooting, I feel like I should go out for a pattern test with somebody who knows bis things and see what am I doing wrong!

I used two have multiple shotguns for different game and when I would decide to use a different gun for duck hunting I noticed I would miss more often. I pattern tested the gun and it was grate but on a moving target I would miss. I ended up selling my other guns and use a dedicated all around semi for all game because it fit me better and I didn’t have to compensate for different fit. So to answer your question yes fit really matters.

That's solid, I kinda miss the Rimington, it was solid for waterfowl and upland, but I wanted to get a semi and saw the Girsan was a sweet price while being on a budget, so I sold the Rimington and bought Girsan and all of a sudden I can't shoot for the life of me lol, I am thinking of going to Cabelas and see the difference them both guns and figure what exactly is the issue, so far I feel like it's the stock, although online the Girsan is a big longer than the Rimington that's why I'm confused, maybe they can help me out there.

Go to a reputable gunsmith with your hunting clothing on,and ask him to judge the gun fit.Have him tell You what You need.

There is more to a gun fit then a length of the stock(while being the most important)
The grip size-the grip angle ,the drop at the comb,the drop at the heel,the cast.

All together may play bad games with you.

Once i extended the length of the pull (not knowing any better)on my sweet shooting-and reliable hitting (alas missfiring often)over under,and from that moment i could not hit a thing with it reliably.
Sold it ,after fixing the missfire issues.

2. Review fit, and also be aware that the gun will fit differently at different times of the year. Sadly, shotguns are one of those animals that you'll likely want a little shorter fit. As the season progresses, you'll tend to have more layers.
3. The shim kits are a decent thing. Way too many guys buy a gun, and disregard drop, and cast.

Oh smack! Its a learning process, it's crazy for the Rimington I did not do anything to check for fitting, just baught it and it was beautiful fit it felt like part of me I know sounds weird . But I will check all them parts you just mentioned

You and few mentioned that, where the gun is best if was fitted a bit shorter, I kinda feel that way about the Girsan, although apparently still taller than the Rimingtonz maybe the comb and the pull of stock is a bit thinner. I'm taking it out today to patten test it, I got 3inch steel shot from federal, see how that goes

I have both guns you've mentioned. Girscan in 2 inch and I have a remington express super mag.

What choke are you using on them? For turkey you can get a turkey choke for your remington 870.

For the girc I use the factory full and it shoots great.


I've noticed this year my gircsan isn't shooting slugs all to well. But jt might be me. I hate the smooth bore sights so that might be it.

Most likely using the remington for deer this year.

For bird shot I dont have much input but the few times I shot it out of my girc they seemed to be okay.

Remember ammo you use in the remington wont always be the same as another gun!.

Thinking about getting the girc drilled so I can put a red dot on it.

I think I did get lucky with it, I'm gonna put effort in every way I can to fit the girsan, if it came down to it that it's a nay, I may just sell it and buy again rimington
