Great morning in the woods
Was out scouting last night and spotted a tom fly up on to the roost.
So, my son and I setup on him this morning. As it starts to get light, we can see him in full strut in the tree and we think to our selfs that this is going to get interesting real fast. As the fly-down begins, he's not alone and the 4 hens are taking up all of his attention. Now at this point we can't hear any other toms gobbling, and the one out front is sticking with his hens that want nothing to do with us. After about an hour, there is a unknown tom that has sneeked in behind us and has gobbled to anounce his presence for the first time. I raise my shotgun in the direction I think he will approch from, and not 2 minutes later he's in the field off my right shoulder at 20 yards. Say good night mister tom. After the shot, our attention is back to the first tom who is at this point heading for the hills. The celabration begins along with a few high five's, but before we can even finish there's another tom sounding off in front of us just outside our view. We get back into position fast, and my son gets ready for this second tom that we didn't even know about. Long story short, the second one is also taking up space in the bed of my truck.
There's nothing like the time you will spend with your best hunting buddy, and mine just happens to be my son.
