May I ask for advice on how to privately sell non-restricted rifles here in Ontario?
I have a CZ 452-2E ZKM (.22LR) which I haven’t used much and not considering the use anymore.
I know that I can bring it to a gun shop, like Elwood Epps etc and they would sell it. I believe they take about 30% of the price as commission.
Is there any way to sell it cheaper without paying this much for service?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

It's been years since I sold a gun. I miss the good old days where you just showed your PAL and went on your way. :)
I was contemplating selling my 20guage Remington 870 express but changed my mind because of all the BS I have to go through for the transfer.
The RCMP has a website you can look this up for confirmation, but the last time I did this the only requirement was to call the RCMP and verify the licence of the buyer is valid prior to making a phyiscal transfer of the firearm. For selling it privately you may want to look on line at Gunpost, or Gunutz. I have bought and sold guns on line with no issues.

I expected there would be some advertising website where I could post the sale for a small fee or even free.
I’ve sold a few guns on Gunpost, went smooth. Although I do regret selling the guns haha :(

Gunpost has a terrible reputation for being a scammer haven. You're quite lucky if you haven't had trouble. To all,please exercise extreme caution. I would use a local gun shop for consignment sales. They deal with the nonsense,you collect the money after small fees,of course.Quote:

As for the scammers…
The RCMP webpage states that
‘You do not need to register non-restricted firearms, but the transferor (seller) must obtain confirmation of the validity of the transferee's (buyer's) firearms licence, prior to the transfer of a non-restricted firearm’
But they did not provide any link on how to get this confirmation.
Any suggestions on that?

It seems that there is no on-line system for that, but I have to call and talk to this … cityots … to obtain the confirmation.
Is this correct? Is it the only way?
30% sounds high to me.
I sold my target pistol a few years ago at Lanz Shooting supplies at Silverdale gun club, and they charged 10%. Phone around to a few shops for % quotes.

I thought you just had to call the CFO's office to confirm PAL ? I didn't know until recently that you even had to do that. The buyer shows you his card , you check the date of expiry and photo and write it down(plus your info) on the bill of sale. Make two copies, one for each of you.... done deal.
In preparation/hope of selling my 0.410 looked into it . Yes the easiest way is just call the number for verification, with a little bit of work there is an online option. Its a bit convoluted and starts with setting up a two-factor authentication with the government of canada. Then go to the same place you would check your pal status at which point you select "check buyers" status.Quote:

I agree with shopping around. Most stores I've dealt with charge less than 30% for consignment fees. Epps is 20% under $1,000.00, 15% over $1,000.

Consigning is great because it is both in your and the store's interest to get the best possible price but you may wait some time before your firearm sells.
Gun auctions are another option. They usually have higher fees than stores but you know approximately when you'll get your money but are at the mercy of the bidding floor on price. The other advantage of gun auctions for sellers is they are a good place to get rid of a gun you wouldn't sell to someone you know or consign at a store where you regularly do business.
Online sales will get the best price but at the cost of perhaps having to deal with tire-kickers, low-ballers, scammers and other assorted low-lifes plus the time spent packaging, shipping and dealing with PAL approval from the Firearms Centre.
A final option is renting a table at a gun show. It has most of the disadvantages listed and you get to experience them in person.
I've sold guns in all of the above formats plus to friends at the club. I'm happy to pay for convenience and depending on the gun it will either be consigned or sent to auction.
I recently sold several guns privately and was able to go online and confirm the buyers PAL. A confirmation # was sent to me and the buyer. Worked pretty slick in just a few minutes,

Apparently I was wrong with the expression calling the ones I would expect to talk about the transferring the gun ‘citiots’.
I always have a hard time talking to the bureaucrats and officials… at least when it comes down to talking about simple things.
Anyway I expected that there would be handy online verification rather than old-fashioned phone calls.
Ok, may be it’s not that they are citiots but I am an idiot. Ok. Can easily accept it.
And then, yes, you are right, I was initially asking how to sell the gun without giving away 30% of the price and then was surprised with the phone calls instead of some simple online verification.

May I also ask for advice about shipping.
I'm currently selling the gun through Gunpost and most people want to ship it outside of Ontario.
I've never shipped guns before.
My biggest concern is telling people at the post office that I'm sending a gun... I'm not sure they'll react appropriately.
Any suggestions on that would be appreciated.

I just found on Canada Post website that
Canadians can send firearms to other adults of legal age. To send firearms, you must open a Solutions for Small Business account and create labels for shipping firearms using the online shipping tool Snap Ship.

It's the only way to ship by Canada Post if you want to send it as an insured package. I'm not sure what the rationale was to change the entire system,but,given the current governmental climate in this country,I don't think it's rocket science to figure it out. Firearm tracking is a big deal with them. It may be a good idea to call around to UPS and FedEx,but,the last time I shipped a firearm,they had stopped shipping "known" packages citing licensing issues on "dangerous goods". Setting up a small business account with CP is simple as long as you're comfortable with inputting the personal data that's required.Quote:
