Haven't hunted there since I was a teen and there are members who may pm you with some first hand info but here's my 2 cents. As with all public hunting areas opening day and thanksgiving weekend will see the highest traffic from there it tails off. How good the hunting well that's up to your definition. With experience and familiarity of the area you can make the best of any opportunity. If I lived in Barrie and had flex time I'd get on the waiting list for the pheasant hunt a Tiny . https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=f52e6...ZXJtaXRz&ntb=1.
For a free option I'm sure you know there is a ton of public land in your area that has decent upland hunting when you get to know them. It'll take a lot of effort to assess the merits of each and every parcel but in the end you'll have some honey holes.
the bay has some good spots for waterfowl hunting. have to explore.
the marsh ... for waterfowl .. if ure accessing by foot, and sitting in trees in camo, might not be a good idea, alot of ppl running dogs for peasants I assume, and I had a couple close calls, luckily the other hunters didnt rush taking a shot ... maybe make your presence know by hanging orange somewhere close by.
Thanks for the info guys. I have been google maps scouting and tiny has always been in the back of my mind. Matchedash bay being free was also interesting I just have never gotten to explore there.
I have explored alot of the county forest in the area and am intending to look at a few more in the months coming up to season. Maybe we could get out with the dogs at some point finsfurfeathers and your guys could teach mine a thing or two.
And I was thinking of just trying for a day pass here or there for the pheasant hunting at tiny. I don't think I can justify the season pass just yet
I have just had bad experiences before showing up at places where there are guys everywhere and its a little too much safety wise for me and I don't want to run into that again
Personally not in the belief old dogs teach new dogs the ropes. Actually the opposite a young dog can easily get into the habit of just following the old dog to the goods. One of the reasons never ran Nova with his mom while hunting. Rather teach the hunter to work with his dog hence the offer last fall. This fall you won't be "hunting" so much as working with the dog to do what its supposed to do. Can understand justifying the membership as I too figure won't hunt the one spot enough when have so many other options though if I was in the neighborhood and could access it for an hour or two after work I'd go for it. As for people got to learn the rhythm of use and if possible try and avoid those times. One of the reasons I work Saturdays and take Friday off.
I figured I would not being doing to much actual hunting this fall with him. More getting him out there and on point and if scenarios work out occasionally get to take a shot. I would still like to get out with you this season if possible just to see how things get done.
My job is strictly Monday to Friday so unless I take days off its always weekends or after work for me
Lol, is it possible to get an update/status on list position ?
