Don’t know anything about muzzleloaders, but do NOT store ur gun in your car overnight - you can be charged! A car is classed as a transportation device, NOT a storage device. You need to take ur gun in to whatever your spending the night in for legal storage.
???. Perfectly fine to store your gun in the vehicle. If you want to be totally anal, put a trigger lock on it, put it in a sealed (zippered gun case) and lock it in the vehicle out of sight. Put it in the trunk if it's a car. Cover the case with a blanket if it's a truck. No CO that I know will have a problem with this.
I've never pulled my powder or bullet. Just pull the primer and the have the gun encased. Been checked several times by COs and it has never been a problem. I've had it sit 14 days in my ML before. I will change it out if we get a drizzly day with high humidity but I hunt out of a protected blind. Call your local district office and speak to the Enforcement Super to see what there "unloaded" policy is.Quote:

While a bit confusing-if you can lock the firearm in the vehicle,you are golden.If you can not(ATV )then need to have a trigger lock.
But we are talking vehicle not ATV.
Not at home though.
Taking chances down south with that(i am talking overnight)is likely a good way to get you in trouble.
Why taking chances-and why potentially spend time and huge money to clear the charge?
Back to the muzzleloader.
I love my TC Omega,and if the Act would be slightly different-i would hunt exclusively with it.
But- loading the gun (FUMBLING)at legal light,then unloading at sunset(FUMBLING)just does not sit well with me.
So-i use it sporadically only.

Not sure why the Ontario Head CO would be involved in Firearms storage which is Federal. I couldn’t tell you how many camps lock their firearms in their vehicles, from moose to deer to camping to just tying to save room in a cabin and most guys bring a couple of rifles and a shotgun for grouse. I look forward to their response in writing, if they give it to you. Might want to ask him what people hunting out of tents should do for safe storage, use the truck or the tent.

I do recall a situation where someone got into hot water storing a gun in his car but this was where he stopped at a bar and the car got broken into, as I recall the issue was he was not going directly from the range to his home.

As far as leaving gun in your vehicle at your residence....there is federal case law that basically states if you car is in your driveway, it would not be considered safe storage as you can take the gun inside your residence. If you are not at your residence, locked and out of sight is likely suitable. A trigger lock would cover the storage aspect as well, as opposed to transportation.

As far as loaded ML, (and many other scenarios), both federal and provincial laws apply.
Look at the federal law first.....a ML with powder and bullet in it, is considered loaded. It legally cannot be left this way overnight.
The provincial FWCA basically provides an exemption to this, by removing the primer, WHILE MOVING FROM ONE HUNTING AREA TO ANOTHER.
I may not have the wording exactly right, as I didn't look it up, but this is basically what the two Acts say.

Some fire their gun in the air or in the ground shortly before the end of legal.
I could hear pop-pop all aroud my stand many times in the past(in the heydays of the abundance of secondary deer tags in 82A).
Even though i love my muzzleloader ,this ,and loading the gun after legal makes me do it a whole lot less ,then i would do otherwise.
There are maybe other methods they are working too-but i do not know.
