Never fails, they go on strike when Christmas is near to slow down gift and other parcel delivery. Just like teachers, you ever see them go on strike during the summer holidays.
Got my package on Thursday last week just in time! lol
Canada Post has about entirely exhausted their usefulness. They operate on a catastrophic loss basis. If it wasn't for taxpayer bailouts, they'd have been done like dinner many years ago. With so many other delivery companies operating,it may be time to remove all funding and let them sink or swim much the same as the CBC. Stick a fork in 'em. They're done.
Yup, pull the gravy boat out from under them, they can go work for the other delivery companies.
Anyone try and mail anything out yet? We went to staples the other day to send out a Xmas card .
They wanted 45 bucks lol. We kindly laughed at the price and decided we will drive it to Sudbury in December . That was the cheap price

I didn't even notice they were on strike... lol
Well I made an order last week that gets delivered via Canada post. Paid the extra insurance incase it gets lost with the millions of other packages waiting to be shipped out.
I thought for sure they would be back to work by now.

unfortunately I think they are striking themselves out of a job. With the Christmas rush pretty much over and Canada post's intention of changing their business model to compete with other delivery services. Nothing better for the corp' to run out the clock, disband the union and start fresh.
That's what it may be, burn your bridges and no more work. I get one or two pieces of garbage mail a week, all bills come by email so loosing Canada Post is nothing for me to cry about. All the other grocery fliers can be had on line and on time. Often the flyers were delivered late and sales were either over or run out of products.
Normally I wouldn't care but I have a package from the States that is stuck in limbo. lol!
After this strike is over it will be interesting to see how many businesses don't go back to Canada post... :)
It could fall for a many of reasons many already mentioned.
It already shows that some didn't even notice lol.
But they did sign a nice cushy contract with the government not long ago . Couldn't find out the price tag last week when I looked.

These people are the epitome of selfishness.
They DEMAND for themselves 6 % yearly increase among other stuff.
This is for ME!
For THEE?
Salvation Army lost 50 % of their Christmas donations due of this strike(about 9.3 million dollars)
Salvation Army caters for OTHERS,the NEEDY ones.......yet these striking guys and girls could not care LESS.
I hope this ends with a memorable message for them: ALL for MEE...crumbles for THEE people.
Crown corporations like Canada Post exist in an imaginary world. What company can lose money for 8 years in a row amounting to billions and still be in business? - only something subsidized by the taxpayer i.e you and me. They should be shut down or drastically restructured. I own and run my own business and in order to function in the real world they are not an entity i can or would ever rely on.
I think the writing is on the wall as far as Canada post is concerned. I believe the union is telling them to stay on strike and them shutting it down will never happen. The postal workers ate it right up.
A couple of weeks ago I read an article I believe written by the ceo of Canada post saying that they have to restructure and start delivering parcels and start competing with the likes of fed x and ups…
Most likely the Unions and Canada Post will will demand the tax payer bail them out.
Most government mail comes through Canada Post such as Passports but there is a work around, if you go to the passport office, I read you can ask for a pickup date. Not sure how that works for sure. I think I will be doing that in Jan.
They'll both walk away from the table and force Trudeau to legislate them back to work without a contract. Same old, same old.
Already to point that even if they did get back to work today the backlog would take till after the holidays to complete.
I have a health card lost in the mail someplace and will probably still go back and renew it before it arrives. The paper copy expires at the end of the month.
