Does anyone have suggestions for places to go with boat-in camping? I can think of a couple of places off hand, but was wondering if anyone has a good spot to go, ideally within a 2-3 hour drive of Peterborough.

Lingham lake.
Lots of places to beach a boat on Opeongo.
My nephews love Killarney Provincial Park. Algonquin Park is good too.
a little farther but why not temagami
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I was looking at Crotch Lake, any experience there? I know you have to pay for the campsites but don't know much more about it.

what kind of fish are you out to target? that would help answer that question , if you wanted to fish that is.
Bass, pike, pickeral, muskie...any of those are good. Ideally the closer to the Kawarthas the better, but I'm not opposed to driving a bit farther.
There are opportunities for boat in camping in Kawartha highlands on Long Lake. If memory serves, you can go between Long Lake and Loucks lake. This is just south of Apsley off of Long Lake rd. I think you can get your permits right at the boat launch(at least you used to). There aren't a lot of campsites, but there are a few. You would be in for bass and lakers.
Good luck

Take a look at this......I've been & love it!!!
The Massasauga is unique as a water-access-only park. The only way to access the park's 135 campsites is by canoe, kayak or boat. (Motorized travel is not permitted on the inland lake). Every campsite, therefore, is on the waterfront. Forty-eight campsites are on inland lakes accessible by portage. All campsites have box privies
Register at Pete's Place Access Point or Oastler Lake Park Office.
A boat launch is located at Pete's Place for access to Georgian Bay.

That looks good...thanks for the information fellas
Agree with OHB...good walleye/bass musky fishin!
Balsam Lake provincial park has a launch I believe....
Last time I was in there it was still a signature site, and you could register right at the Long Lake store, paying a minimal fee for parking. You may be able to go online and get permits there. Not sure if the system has changed or not, but it is definitely first come first serve.
I may head into the highlands this summer for a weekend trip myself.
french river is the best ive been for boat camping.
Hey Guys,
Im thinking of trying out Massasauga park with my son in 2 - 3 weeks (hes 12). We have never done a boat-in camping before, and I have only ever beached my 19' fish & ski boat on a nice sandy beach. Looking at the pictures on the Massasauga park website of there campsites, it looks pretty rocky. Can anyone who has stayed there provide some advice on the best way to beach your boat there?
Thanks
I've only rented a cottage there (for the last 10 or so years in Woods Bay) but I've beached my boat many times for shore lunch. There are lots of islands and camp sites to choose from so take your pick. Each and every one is unique as far as the solid rock goes but there are some that have sandy beaches as well. Some of the rocky sites are tricky to get into but others are a breeze. You'll figure it out. You're not using a fiberglass boat I hope, otherwise you're best to stick with a sandy beach.
No, its an aluminium boat, I'm just a chicken **** that does not want to scratch it, lol!
St Lawrence river has a ton of Islands that are boat in camping. Docks there that you put payment in mail box. Parks Canada website has all the info on website
When you leave from Massasauga (Blackstone Harbor) go through the narrows which will lead you to Woods Bay. Go straight across Woods Bay to the straights (there's a big Osprey nest on a marker just before the narrows) towards Iron City and you'll find all kinds of sandy sites in the narrows and also lots of sites once it opens up again on the other side towards Iron City. It's a beautiful area but be cautious because there is a lot of rock that isn't marked and just below the surface.
Why would it be better to park an aluminium boat on the rocks than a Fiberglass one? Most of my boating has been with wooden boats, both in and outboard but we would never moor any boat against a rock, unless it was a big smooth sucker and a small boat.
When boating the Trent system or Georgian Bay we just dropped one or two stern anchors and then ran a bow line to shore for the night.
There is a website that describes every camp site in Massassauga. The guy tells you what the beach is like, the fishing around the site, the tent pad, fire pit, he even tells you what the crapper is like.
I just can't remember the name of the site, but it can probably be googled..hold on a sec, follow this link and you are set:

i bought a couple of pieces of rubber flooring. just throw them down on the rock and pull your boat up on it. Tie your anchor off the back to keep the boat from swaying back and forth. This will minimize the scratching.
