belleville canadian tire

Just an FYI to anyone in the area. I was thier a few weeks ago and was talking to the manager of the sports section and I asked him about the improved "sports" section at his store. He informed they are going to be carrying pretty much everything to do with hunting and fishing and will be selling firearms before the fall. I was impressed with the amount of fishing stock they had (made some crappy tires look sick), and it was obvious they were attempting to have a decent selection of hunting equipment. His quote to me was "thier is no point in local people driving to bass pro to get equipment when they can come here".

It's been at leat 15 years since i have seen a firearm in this Canadian tire, be interesting to see how this works out.

thats awesome, i was in there not to long ago and they definatly have one of the best fishing selections around, good to hear about the hunting equipment and firearms!

Sounds like you've got a quality owner right there - The first thing I noticed (and fell in love with LOL) was the 12 rows of outdoor gear in the CT's around here. Fire Arms are traded and sold here too! I can't be bothered to drive all the way to BPS when most of it is here on the shelves (I know the owner of the one near my house and he's even brought in pieces for me when I have 6 or more guys that will buy it) :goodstuff:

That would be nice to see again - I bought my first gun from that store in back in 95.

They have a good sports department compared to alot of the other box stores that supposedly carry hunting supplies.

I purchased a remington 30-06 at can. tire in toronto years ago. I would think today that they would have to find a pretty big blue zip-up bag to get you up to the check out now: Jerry

Canadian Tire in Aurora must be too close to Toronto, fishing and hunting selection is very limited and if you want something on sale, not likely going to have it.

Some of the hunting stuff is out 12 months of the year, time to look at the regulations once again maybe I am missing the summer seasons!

CT selling firearms? I never thought I'd see that happening. Over the last 2 years, I've gone to CT stores around Durham and am often disappointed at their lack of hunting stuff. A year ago I went to the Pickering store to find their hunting section gone. I spoke to an employee nearby and suggested that she tell her supervisor they should not do that since turkey season is about to start and she told me she was the supervisor.

The same applies to Wally mart in the area. Maybe its due to the demographics but all those ads on the OOD magazine about hunting apparel being carried by them just doesn't apply to this area. Even their superstore only had a very small panel of accessories.

Wow. That is a huge step for Canadian Tire to get back into firearms. The one in Brockville does not have the greatest selection of stuff for fishing and hunting. The smaller town of Prescott is better. Kingstons is the best that I know of in the area for me to get to. Although I still prefer to deal with the smaller stores as much as possible.

The main store in Kingston (3 stores) has a big selection of hunting and fishing clothes and equipment. It is the biggest CT store in Canada. No firearms yet except air guns etc. and ammo.

There are a few Canadian Tires in Northern Ontario that still sell firearms. We even have Homehardwares that still sell firearms here.


The further away you get from the big stink the more often you see this.

C.Tire stores can't buy they own stuff and offer for sale. They have to order from their own main warehouse, and the supplies at the warehouse are a result of many corporate purchasing decisions, meetings, etc.
It's not that simple for a CT manager to decide what to stock as he/she cannot buy from just any supplier.
B.Pro and Wally would be the same.
For those who want to buy something, there are no shortage of stores, but you can almost never find everything you want in ONE store to your own satisfaction!

I know for a fact that this is not true. I bought a Crucial fishing rod in Kingston. It broke and was to be warrentied. They told me that they could not do it because the guy in charge of the fishing dept. was not in that day and it was his stock. Same with the Rivers West clothing being sold at the Kingston location. They have a lot of stuff that the other stores do not and cannot get.

I think some CT stores are independently owned and do have the ability to order other stuff in. The ones that are owned by the CT proper do have strict rules regarding stock.

I'd say you're right Greg - I believe there are corporate stores and associate stores.

Good for Canadian Tire - I think its definitely a step in the right direction for sportsmen.

Okay guys, I stand corrected (I think).
One of my closest friends works at the CT head office and she's got something to do with purchasing on a national level. She was telling me last week about the hassle they are getting from Ottawa regarding the storage of ammo. She had to travel from Toronto to Ottawa and try to convince the firearms people that CT should not have to build a multi million dollar storage facility like the government is proposing!
I will double check with her and report back. But what Cranks, GB, and SB have said above make sense to me as well.

I haven't seen any CT selling firearms in the last 15 years either. Are there any that still do? (They use to have them in the fall catalogue)

Is that the CT on Bell Ave just off the 401? I always tank up there but have never been inside:ashamed:. (how many CTs in Belleville?)

It's the only one i know of. I dont know the name of the street but is on the south side of that road across the quinte mall.

Yes it is patvetzal. There's only the one in belleville the next closest is trenton.

The CTC in Carleton Place sells St. Croix rods; the only one in Canada to do so...

In Sudbury we have 2 Canadian Tire's, and only one carries firearms.

The CT in Kenora has a better stocked gun shop than the LeBaron in Ottawa.....LARGE selection of new and used guns, ammo, optics, powder, bullets, primers......
Most all the stores in the southern part of the province have few to no guns. My local one only stocks ammo.

The CT in Belleville is run by Matt Seeley. Fishes many tournies and wins, sponsors include Canadian Tire among others. They have almost everthing for fishing and I mean everthing. Stuff I used to have to order online or travel two hours for are now there. I now go there for prices and selection and availibilty, I 've made my last trip to the bass pro. He offers guiding and techniques and is very helpful with anything that has to do with fishing. They carry a very nice Shimano dropshot rod for 189.00, wife probably won't bite on that one.

I went to one of the stores in Windsor yesterday and asked the sports manager if they are going to carry guns again. He said no and there was no talk of it. He hinted that ammo was hard enough to do and said that it must be stores in the north that are thinking about it.

I have also been to the one in Kenora and can say they have one of the best selections in Ontario. Every store can carry what they choose out of the regular Can Tire product line up but they can sell whatever they like as long as they get the proper license if needed. If I remember correctly, the Kenora location also has a Marina at the waterfront!

Bought my first Grohmann #1 knife and sheath from a Canadian Tire in the '70's with my paper route money. Wish they'd all get serious about selling quality gear again.....

Hey Toddy that would be because a few local businessman are strating up a new hunting store to Rival what Quinte Outdoor was back in the Rick Wright Days these guys are coming in with the products we want and the knowledge and customer service that Canadian Tire and the Other guy in Belleville Lack bigtime. My understanding is that they are avid outdoorsman that were tired of the drive to the GTA also check them out opening beginning of July I think the name is Highfalls Outfitters.

And one of their names is Big Harv.

Apparently, Welland CT has a pretty good selection...so does Port Colborne according to my neighbour....so some of the stores in the south west are still carrying...

Yes Welland CT has guns..and Erie Tracker in Port Colborne has a good selection..not sure about CT there

I've noticed a change in the sporting section here in the Burlington/Hamilton area, more hunting related hardware, clothes, stands etc, I think with Bass Pro and Cabela's arriving in Southern Ontario they are starting to rethink strategy.

I will add Fenlon Falls has a very good selection of firearms and a decent hunting section.
Orillia also has firearms but was a much smaller display 5-10 guns but I did buy ammo from there.
CT is trying to set up their stores to cater to the local market.

I do see ctire and cabelas are getting rid of their duck dynasty stuff haha
