Peanut Butter : Bait Jar

So after 2 yrs and about $25 worth of peanut butter ($3 jars), I have to conclude that the use of a jar of peanut butter screwed to a tree is a dismal failure as a deer attractant. I have 100's of photos of everything from turkeys, raccoons, porcuine and fishers climbing up and taking some, but only a handful of any pics of deer being attracted to it.

The most common critter..the Fisher....they seem to love it and within days of the jar being put out it's been licked clean by them..even when it's -20. They are even fairly adept and unscrewing it and taking the jar away :)

I have one more jar to test...I'm going to wait till Dec when it's stays below freezing all day, and I'm going to cut out slates on the side of the jar and hang it from a tree. See if it will deter the small critters and see if the deer will come by and lick at it....let you know come Dec.

I've seen that fisher. He was carrying a #2 Robertson but asked for help because he could'nt get a grip on the screwdriver.

I tried PB my first year out. Had a little bit left in a jar so I just through it out there to see if deer will hit it. They never even touched the thing, let alone come near it. So I never use PB, just good ol apples.

Once I put up a gravity corn feeder, the raccoons took care of the peanut butter mixture too!

We tried pb a few years ago. Only the yotes ate it. The bonus to that was all the pesky deer left so we had more time to relax in the treestand.

If was going try peanut butter this year, but I brought three pumpkins out instead. The only thing that touched the pumpkins were the rodents. Not even the Ravens were interested. I tried apples a few years ago with no luck either.

I hunt the bush on crown land with no real farming nearby. I'm thinking that these are foreign foods to the deer in the area and they avoid them as a result. I might try a food plot this spring and see if that helps.
